Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

New York Jets vs Miami Dolphins

The New York Jets will travel to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, to meet the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST for an AFC East matchup.  The Jets are coming off their second loss in a row on the road to the Chicago Bears by a 24-10 score as they allowed 179 yards on the ground to the Bears.  The Dolphins suffered a 42-23 road loss to the surging Houston Texans on October 25th  as they were outscored 28-10 in the second half while the Dolphins’ defense continued to struggle in allowing a total of 188 yards rushing to Houston while their 20th ranked passing attack allowed five touchdown passes to Deshawn Watson on the night to hand them their second straight loss.

The last time the two teams met was on September 16, 2018 when the Dolphins picked up the 20-12 road victory as it was a tale of two halves as the Jets were outscored 20-0 in the first half as Ryan Tannehill threw two touchdown passes while Kenyon Drake score a rushing TD to put the road team up early.  Nonetheless, the Dolphins would be scoreless in the second half as the Jets could only muster twelve points on two field goals by Jason Myers along with a touchdown pass by Sam Darnold to Bilal Powell.  The loss started the Jets on a three-game skid while the Dolphins would win their following game versus Oakland at home before embarking on the losing skid to where they now possess.

New York Jets's Latest Performance :

The Jets only racked up 207 yards of total offense as they dropped their second straight with Sam Darnold had a QB passer rating of only 75.8 for the game while throwing a TD pass.  Isiah Crowell rushed for only 25 yards on 13 carries for the day for a Jets team that was never able to gain any type of momentum on offense.  On the other hand, the Jets defense gave up almost 400 yards of total yards to Chicago as Mitch Trubisky threw for 220 yards with two TD’s, while the rushing attack was paced by Jordan Howard with 81 yards and a score.  The Jets have allowed 31 points per average in their last three games.  The offense for New York, on the other hand, has averaged 13 points per game in their last three road games while the defense allowed 25 points during this time as they went 0-3 ATS.

In all, this would be a great time for them to pick up some much-needed wins as they are facing a Miami Dolphins that has lost four of their last five games along with following this up against a Buffalo team that has been awful the past few weeks.  Also, with a win versus the Dolphins, they can grab second place within the AFC East behind the Patriots, so, they will certainly look to clean up their act versus a reeling Miami squad this weekend.

Miami Dolphins's Latest Performance :

The Dolphins are losers of four of their last five games to where they are also 1-4 ATS during this time.  And while the offense has had some terrible outings during this time while dealing with QB issues with Tannehill out with injury in addition to Osweiler attempting to gain some type of consistency under center, one could look at the defense as a huge catalyst for their current ills as well.  For the year, the unit is allowing 27 points per outing to their opponents, however, during the last five games, have given up 31 points per outing as each of their losses were by an average of 17 points.

On the other hand, their offense has indeed struggled even more as Tannehill has sat out the past three games with no timetable set for his return.  To compound their issues, leading receiver Albert Wilson is on injured reserve with a hip injury.  Nonetheless, Kenyon Drake is their biggest playmaker while Franck Gore mans a rushing attack that is ranked 17th in the league in averaging 108 yards per outing.  Osweiler has a 64% completion percentage in throwing for 895 yards, six TD’s, along with three INT’s since his injection into the starting QB position.

How New York Jets & Miami Dolphins Matchup.

Miami is 3-4 ATS while the OU is 5-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Jets have been horrible lately while also being even worse on the road as their record ATS indicates.  The Dolphins have been much more solid at Hard Rock Stadium this year in winning three of their last four games while going 3-1 ATS during this time.  Nonetheless, both teams have struggled recently and will certainly need a win in this matchup as the Dolphins would like to maintain their second seed within the division while the Jets would also like to grab the second seed after taking out Miami at home.  In all, look for this to be a competitive matchup amongst division teams that are desperately in need of a much better showing after their recent performances.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Miami Dolphins

My reason for the pick :

I will back the home team in this matchup as the Jets offense will indeed falter in the end as pressure has not been something that they have thrived against in the past.  And while Osweiler has not been stellar in his time under center in replacing Tannehill, expect the Dolphins to clean things up at home to where they have played well all season.  The Jets, on the other hand, continue to struggle on the road as this trend will certainly continue this weekend.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

Both teams should put up some scores in this matchup as the Dolphins have allowed a tad under 40 points to their opponents in their last four losses while the Jets have given up an average of 31 points during their last three outings, overall.  And while both offenses have struggled lastly, the inability of both defenses to consistency stop the run will lend to the score surpassing the total for this game.  In all, expect the over to be the strong play in a game where you have two defenses that have struggled throughout the season in what will be a high scoring yet competitive battle on Sunday afternoon.
