Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens
The Pittsburgh Steelers will travel to M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Maryland, to battle their division foe in the Ravens on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST. The Steelers are coming off a 33-18 home division win over the reeling Cleveland Browns last Sunday as James Conner racked up over 100 yards rushing along with two TD’s for a Steelers ground attack that has averaged only 100 yards per game this season. On the other hand, the Ravens were torched by Cam Newton and the Panthers on the road in their last matchup in losing by a 36-21 score as they have suddenly dropped two straight. These teams met last on September 30, 2018 as the Ravens got the 26-14 road win as they shut out the Steelers in the second half by outscoring them 12-0 while Joe Flacco racked up 363 yards along with two TD’s. Also, the Ravens defense allowed the Steelers only 19 yards rushing in the contest. In all, the Steelers are 1-6-1 ATS in the last eight games versus the Ravens while the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings in Baltimore.
Pittsburgh Steelers's Latest Performance :
The Steelers have cleaned things up, for the most part, as it relates to wins and losses; However, they continue to struggle in the rushing attack along with from within their pass defense. And despite Conner coming through big in their last matchup versus the Browns, the Steelers are ranked 23rd in the league in rushing with only 100 yards per game on the season, while their pass defense is allowing 265 yards per game to opponents. The Browns Baker Mayfield finished with two touchdowns to two difference receivers in the Browns loss at Heinz Field last Sunday while the Steelers held their rushing attack to only 74 yards for the game. On the other hand, Ben Roethlisberger finished with 257 yards along with two touchdowns to Antonio Brown while Conner dominated within the rushing attack with 146 yards along with two scores in the win.
The Steelers will certainly look to keep their momentum going on the ground versus a Ravens team that is ranked 11th in the league in rush defense, however, has been pushed around by their last two opponents. Roethlisberger and company will also test a pass secondary ranked 2nd in the league in giving up 196 yards in the air.
Baltimore Ravens's Latest Performance :
The Ravens looked to go on the road to atone for their last outing versus the Saints to where they dropped a heartbreaker by one point due to a missed PAT by Justin Tucker. They seemed to be in good spirits initially as they scored midway through the first period on an Alex Collins 14-yard TD run to put them up 7-0; However, the Panthers scored 27 unanswered points after this to go up 27-7 before Flacco (192 yards, TD, two INTs) threw his only touchdown pass of the night to Javorious Allen to make the score 27-14. Of course, this would certainly not be enough as Cam Newton ran for a touchdown to put the game out of reach with 9 minutes remaining in the game as the Ravens allowed almost 400 total yards to Carolina, including 154 yards on the ground, with Newton leading the way with 52 yards.
Collins led the rushing attack for Baltimore with 49 yards while Willie Snead IV led the Ravens receiving corps with only 54 yards on five catches. Baltimore has had trouble scoring in their last four games with the offense putting up only 18 points per game. And while the defense has only allowed 18 points per game during this time, Flacco and company has simply not been able to remain efficient in keeping the chains moving at critical points in the game. They have, however, been successful in facing the Steelers in the past. Nonetheless, they will be facing a Pittsburgh squad that has won three straight games while averaging 34 points per game during their stellar streak.
How Pittsburgh Steelers & Baltimore Ravens Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Pittsburgh is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 4-2
Baltimore is 4-3 ATS while the OU is 2-5
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
One can really throw out the stats for this contest between the Ravens and Steelers and simply say that it will be a hard hitting and competitive contest amongst two teams either looking to regain their form from earlier in the season, or, continue their winning ways while shoring up certain aspects of their offense/defense in the meantime. The winner of this matchup will certainly have the inside track in winning the division as I am sure that the Ravens will, at some point, turn the corner on their season. With that being said, they have had success in playing the Steelers at home and they may indeed be provided with an opportunity to right the ship at home this weekend, particularly, if Roethelisberger’s thumb injury slows him down.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Baltimore Ravens -3
My reason for the pick :
I will give the edge to the Ravens in this matchup as they are very familiar with the Steelers while also having success versus this team at home in recent matchups. Of course, Flacco and company has not played well at all during their current skid, however, expect their defense to be the tip of the spear in getting them out of their present rut in stuffing the rushing attack for the Steelers while neutralizing Pittsburgh’s offense, altogether, by bringing the pressure to Roethlisberger throughout, if only to test his thumb. In all, the Ravens will certainly cover the small spread in this contest while also gaining some confidence moving forward.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 47.5
My reason for the prediction :
Look for the under to be play in this contest as these teams are very familiar with each other, as stated. Combine this with the fact that the under has been the result in five of the last six games for the Ravens (2-0 in their last two home games), and the under will certainly be the strong play. Again, the Ravens will stop the off and on rushing attack for the Steelers which will make them more susceptible to getting to Roethlisberger throughout the game. In all, this will be low scoring and competitive matchup until the end.
