Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Carolina Panthers
An NFC South matchup versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Carolina Panthers will take place at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm EST. The Buccaneers are coming off a rally which fell short on the road versus the Cincinnati Bengals as they went down in defeat by a 37-34 score as they dropped fourth game in five outings. The Panthers, on the other hand, were on fire at home versus the Ravens as Cam Newton threw for 219 yards along with two passing TD’s in addition to rushing for 52 yards along with a TD. The last time these teams met was on December 24, 2017 as the Panthers picked up the 22-19 home win as Cam Newton was the man of the hour once again for the Panthers in allowing the home team to retake the lead with :35 seconds remaining in the game with a two-yard touchdown run to seal the victory. The Panthers were outgained in the contest 392-255 yet had 181 return yards on the day which kept them in the game. The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings amongst these teams while the under is 4-0 in the last four games, overall.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers's Latest Performance :
The Buccaneers certainly need a win at this point in the season as they have hit a rough patch recently in losing four of their last five outings. The defense can certainly be called out as the catalyst in these losses as they have allowed 30 or more points in four of these games, overall. The Bucs have also gone 1-4 ATS during this time, yet covered the spread in their last outing versus the Bengals in a 37-34 road defeat. Jameis Winston ended the game with 274 yards along with a touchdown, however, he threw four picks (one returned for TD) in what was his tenth interception since returning from suspension. On the other hand, in his four games under center in 2018, he has thrown only six TD passes.
Ryan Fitzpatrick was called up due to Winston’s dismal play in this matchup and bought the Bucs back while throwing two touchdown passes along with having 194 yards for the game. Peyton Barber led the rushing attack for Tampa Bay with 85 yards and a TD while Mike Evans shined once again with 176 yards along with a TD in the loss. Nonetheless, turnovers along with a lackluster defensive effort doomed the Bucs, once again. They will certainly need to improve in these areas as the Panthers have feasted on team’s inability to defend the pass/rush this season while also being opportunistic on the defensive end in ranking 6th in the league in takeaways with 9 fumbles along with 4 interceptions for the year.
Carolina Panthers's Latest Performance :
The Panthers remained undefeated at home (4-0) while going 3-1 ATS at Bank of America Stadium as they scored 27 unanswered points to go up 27-7 before Joe Flacco (192 yards, TD, two INTs) threw his only touchdown pass of the night to Javorious Allen to make the score 27-14. Nonetheless, Newton ran for a touchdown to put the game out of reach with 9 minutes remaining in the game as the Ravens allowed almost 400 total yards to Carolina including 154 yards on the ground. Christian McCaffrey also had a score on the day after finishing with 52 yards total while DJ Moore had 90 receiving yards on five catches. The defense has two sacks on the night while collecting three turnovers for the game despite allowing the Ravens 100% efficiency within the red zone. The Panthers continue to remain in the second place slot within the NFC South division behind the Saints as they are not set to play until December. With that being said, they must continue to win, particularly at home, as four of their next six games will be on the road where they are 1-2 on the season.
How Tampa Bay Buccaneers & Carolina Panthers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Tampa Bay is 2-4 ATS while the OU is 5-1
Carolina is 3-3 ATS while the OU is 3-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This NFC South matchup will certainly be an interesting one as both teams often score with ease and are very talented; However, the Panthers certainly possess the better defense as opposed to the Bucs, whose defense has been shaky all season. Of course, the Panthers have had success versus the Bucs in recent matchups; However, with Fitzpatrick possibly being reinserted back into the starting lineup due to Winston’s troubles with turnovers, this game can be more interesting that one may think. Carolina is coming off a huge win over the Ravens in their last time out, however, never underestimate the will of a team that desperately needs a win. With that being said, look for the home team to crank up their offense versus a defense that has been giving all season while Tampa will seek to test a Panther D that is allowing only 21 points per game.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Carolina Panthers -6
My reason for the pick :
I will back the Panthers in this contest as they are on fire at this point in the season while being almost unstoppable at home for the season both in overall record and ATS. Newton continues to shine in critical moments in the game while the Panthers defense continues to neutralize the offense of opposing teams. The Bucs may put some points on the board in this matchup, but, will not be consistent in doing so. It is for this reason that I will take the Panthers with the points as they will win their third straight before hitting the road for four tough upcoming contests, including another matchup versus the Bucs on December 2nd.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over
My reason for the prediction :
I will back the over in this contest despite the under being the play in the last matchup versus these teams. The over has been the play in three of the last four home games for the Panthers while being the result in each of the four road games for the Bucs this season. Also, with the way the Bucs turn the ball over these days along with their inability to stop anyone on defense, look for the opportunistic defense/offense for the Panthers to take advantage of this as the score will indeed balloon as a result.
