Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Jacksonville Jaguars vs Indianapolis Colts
The reeling Jacksonville Jaguars will travel to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, to face the also struggling Colts on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm EST. The Jaguars have lost four straight games while also coming off a 24-18 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles as they were stagnant of offense yet again in racking up only a tad over 300 yards for the game while giving up 133 yards on the ground to Philly’s struggling rushing attack.
The Colts, while struggling all season, have won two straight games with a 42-28 win over the Oakland Raiders on the road before their bye week. The Jags picked up the win in their last outing on December 3, 2017 as they got a 30-10 blowout win at home while also covering the spread as ten-point home favorites. The under has been the play in the last seven games at Lucas Oil Stadium amongst these teams while the Jaguars are also 6-0 ATS in the last six games, overall, versus the Colts.
Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :
Jacksonville has dropped to third place within the AFC South division and continues to deal with inconsistency and injury at the QB position. Blake Bortles, which threw for 286 yards versus the Philadelphia Eagles along with a TD pass, has struggled lately in throwing 5 touchdown passes alongside six interceptions in his last five outings. With that being said, the rushing attack has not fared great as well in that TJ Yeldon has not hit the 100 yards mark in any game this season. In fact, he only had seven yards on just two carries in the Jags last matchup while not having scored a TD since a 31-12 home victory over the Jets weeks ago. They may certainly find some scoring opportunities versus the Colts in their next matchup, however, they must be focused as Indianapolis has tightened up on the defensive side lately.
The Jacksonville defense continues to rank within the top ten in points allowed per game, however, their offense has truly let them down. They gave up just 395 yards to the Eagles in their last outing while having four sacks and recovering a fumble. The defense also intercepted Carson Wentz in the matchup as well.
Indianapolis Colts's Latest Performance :
After beginning the season in horrendous fashion at 1-5, the Colts have gotten a bit of stellar play from their defense as well as from Andrew Luck and the offense recently. They are winners of two straight as Luck has been a catalyst for the offense in throwing seven touchdown passes in the last three outings alongside zero INT’s. Also, the rushing game has made an appearance for a team that is ranked 12th in the league, with Marlon Mack putting up 100 or more rushing yards in their last two games, overall, while scoring three times. In all, the Colts look to certainly make a winning push to catch the first-place team in their respective AFC South division in the Houston Texas beginning with a win over the Jaguars in their next outing.
The defense for the Colts have also been aggressive lately in allowing just 16 points per game to their opponents. They allowed their last opponent in the Raiders to put up 103 yards total on the ground while Derek Carr threw for 244 yards along with three TD’s to three difference receivers. Nonetheless, the Colts are continuing to improve, particularly within the pass defense, as this is where the Jags may indeed attempt to strike since they have no rushing attack to speak of at the moment.
How Jacksonville Jaguars & Indianapolis Colts Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Jacksonville is 3-5 ATS while the OU is 3-5
Indianapolis is 4-4 ATS while the OU is 5-3
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be a low scoring and grinding matchup amongst two teams that are truly dismal on offense. Also, they each have defenses that are above average to much improved as the Jags’ unit gives up on 21 points per game while the Colts D has only allowed 16 points in their last two games, overall. With division standings on the line, look for the focus to be there on both sides as the Jags will look to their passing game to exploit the Colts while Indy will seek to make come headway versus a Jags defense that is stout, yet has given up more yards than usual in the rush lately.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Indianapolis colts -3.5
My reason for the pick :
Blake Bortles continues to deal with a shoulder injury yet is probable for this matchup versus the Colts on Sunday. Even with Bortles in the lineup, the Jags continue to struggle to move the ball. And while they are playing alongside a very aggressive defense, at some point, the D will become fatigued due to lack of offensive output. In all, this will occur in this matchup as the Colts will simply be able to move the ball at will late in the game versus the Jags defense in which to cover along with pull out the exciting victory.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 47.5
My reason for the prediction :
On the other hand, the Jags have not really given up many points this year to their opponents though they often find themselves on the losing end lately. it is for this reason that I expect the under to be the play in this instance as the Colts are a work in progress. And with Jacksonville’s defense continuing to play strong, it will severely affect their offensive output, thus reflecting in the score. Also, do not look for many points from the Jags as they have only put up 46 total in their last four outings.
