Dallas Cowboys vs Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons return home to Mercedes-Benz Stadium after playing 2 consecutive road games as they will welcome in the Dallas Cowboys for an NFC matchup, the opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM. The Atlanta Falcons are coming off a tough loss after winning 3 straight while the Cowboys look like they have finally righted the ship.
Dallas Cowboys's Latest Performance :
The Dallas Cowboys may have saved Jason Garrett’s job after they went on the road and beat their divisional rivals in the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. QB Dak Prescott was able to elevate his level of play against a banged up Eagle secondary by tossing for 270 yards and 1 TD. Prescott has been criticized all season long despite throwing for 11 TDs and only 5 interceptions because he has lacked accuracy down the field. Prescott showed the ability to run a 2-minute offense effectively as he pushed the Cowboys down the field before halftime making big throws before eventually picking up the TD with his legs on a QB sneak. With the Cowboys making a trade for Amari Cooper it looks like Dak has gradually improved as Cooper is a downfield threat and the former Alabama WR showed that against the Eagles by racking up a team-high 6 catches for 75 yards. The ground game was what truly allowed the Cowboys to take a step forward in this game as star RB Ezekiel Elliot was able to have a big game. Elliot was able to gash the Eagles defense for 151 yards and 1 TD on 19 carries which pushed the athletic back to 831 yards on the season. The defense started the game off hot as they kept the Eagles off the scoreboard for most of the first half and a huge reason for their success can be accredited to rookie LB Leighton Vander Esch who had a team-high 13 tackles as well as an interception on the Eagles first drive.
Atlanta Falcons's Latest Performance :
The Atlanta Falcons started the year off really sluggish but they used a 3 game win streak to push themselves back into the early playoff talks, but after a 28-16 loss on the road to the dumpster fire Cleveland Browns, Dan Quinn and staff need to reevaluate where they are at. The high-powered Falcons offense was one-dimensional in this game as they were unable to find very many running lanes on the ground. QB Matt Ryan continued his excellent start to the season as he tossed for 330 yards and 2 TDs. Ryan had prided himself on not turning the ball over and he has done just that this season as he has thrown for 3015 yards, 21 TDs, and 3 interceptions. One of Ryan’s TD passes was able to hook up with his favorite target in Julio Jones who has started to rack up TDs after not recording one through the first few weeks. Jones led the way for the Falcons pass catchers with 7 catches for a total of 107 yards and a TD which puts the big WR at 1040 yards and 2 TDs on the season. The Falcons were without Devonta Freeman once again which means Tevin Coleman saw the bulk of work but he was unable to break loose as the Browns shut down the run game. Coleman tallied 11 carries for a total of 44 yards while backup RB Ito Smith went 11 yards on 4 carries. The Falcons defense was unable to stop rookie QB Baker Mayfield as they let him throw for 3 TD passes and although there are injuries in the backend it is inexcusable. Safety Damontae Kazee was able to come away with the lone interception of the game as he jumped a double pass play that looked busted from the start.

My reason for the pick :
I will be siding with the home team in this matchup because Atlanta has played better over the last few weeks than the Cowboys have. Atlanta before their loss against Cleveland was flying high on the offensive side of the ball and although Dallas has one of the best defenses in the league I just can’t trust them after their performance against Tennessee and Philadelphia. Dan Quinn will make it an emphasis for his offensive unit to get their ground game going so they can open up passing lanes down the field. I think Atlanta’s defense also steps up against the Cowboys offense as they have been too inconsistent throughout the season. Take Atlanta to win at home.
