Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Denver Broncos vs Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers return to the StubHub Center after playing 2 consecutive road games as they will welcome in the Denver Broncos in an AFC West matchup, the opening kickoff is slated for 4:05 PM. The Chargers have been one of the best teams in the NFL this year as they trail the Chiefs in the standings while the Broncos have lost 2 straight and are trying to regroup.

Denver Broncos's Latest Performance :

The Denver Broncos have not recovered from the Peyton Manning era and this year is yet another example of that as they have dropped 3 straight games and sit at the bottom of the AFC West. The Broncos dropped their recent home game against the Houston Texans as they were not able to generate much offense. QB Case Keenum attempted 42 passes completing 26 of them for a total of 290 yards and a TD but the lack of a ground game killed the Broncos. Keenum performed well in this game compared to years past as the 30-year-old has thrown 11 TDs compared to 10 interceptions on the season. Undrafted rookie Phillip Lindsay has been most of the offense for the Broncos this year but he was unable to get much running room against the Texans as he only racked up 60 yards on 17 carries. Lindsay wasn’t drafted but he has been the steal of the 2018 draft class as he has rushed for 591 yards and 3 TDs as well as contributes another 160 yards and a TD through the air. TE Jake Heuerman was able to step up in the absence of Demaryius Thomas as he hauled in a team-high 10 catches for 83 yards and 1 TD. Despite the loss, the Broncos played well on the defensive side of the ball as they were able to keep the Texans in check. LB Todd Davis led the way for Denver as he contributed a team-high 10 tackles which pushes his season total to 67 which is also a team-best. The Broncos had trouble in the kicking game as Brandon McManus missed 2 out of his 3 FGs.

Los Angeles Chargers's Latest Performance :

The Los Angeles Chargers have rattled off 6 straight wins which has them sitting at the doorstep of the AFC West and at worst take the #1 wildcard spot. A huge reason for the Chargers success this season can be accredited to veteran QB Phillip Rivers leading the high-powered offense as well as a stingy defense who has held teams off the scoreboard. Rivers was able to lead the Chargers to a win in their recent road matchup against the Oakland Raiders as the 37-year-old threw for 223 yards, 2 TDs, and one interception. Rivers has been one of the top QBs in the NFL this season as he has thrown for over 2459 yards, 21 TDs, and only 4 interceptions. RB Melvin Gordan has been huge for the Chargers on both the ground and through the air which we saw last week. Gordon led the Chargers with 18 carries and 93 yards but he was also the top pass catcher for Rivers as he had a team-high 5 catches for 72 yards and a TD. Star WR Keenan Allen was also solid for the Chargers as he was able to bring down 6 catches for 57 yards and a TD which gives him his 2nd TD catch of the season. The Chargers suffered a blow on the defensive side of the ball as starting LB Denzel Perryman went down with a season-ending injury. LB Jatavis Brown had a team-high 11 tackles while rookie safety Derwin James was able to contribute 9 tackles to keep him at the top of the leaderboard with 64 tackles. Kicker Michael Badgley was perfect for the Chargers as he went 2 for 2 with a long of 41 yards.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Chargers -7

My reason for the pick :

These two teams have taken a completely different direction this season as the Chargers have played really well as of recent while the Broncos cannot seem to get a victory. The Broncos are not great offensively while the Chargers are one of the better defenses in the league which is why this game will be a major mismatch. The Chargers should throw for 300+ yards and keep the Broncos off the scoreboard. Los Angeles is also playing at home which is always a major advantage. Take the TD spread at home for Los Angeles.

Betting trends for Los Angeles Chargers:

  • Los Angeles is 4-2 ATS after a win this season.
