Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Houston Texans vs Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins return to FedEx Field after playing on the road last week as they will welcome in the Houston Texans in a cross-conference clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM. The Washington Redskins and Houston Texans both sit on top of their respective divisions but the race has tightened up behind them.
Houston Texans's Latest Performance :
The Houston Texans have dealt with injuries the last few seasons which is a huge reason why they haven’t been able to break through but they are finally becoming healthy and it has resulted in them having a lead in the AFC South. The Texans are coming off a solid road victory over the Denver Broncos as they received a big game out of their QB as well as their defense. 2nd-year QB Deshaun Watson threw for over 213 yards and 2 TDs to put his season total 2389 yards, 17 TDs, and 7 interceptions. The dual-threat QB was also able to contribute on the ground as he added 38 yards on 6 carries which gives him 268 yards on the season. Watson’s favorite target DeAndre Hopkins eclipsed the 100-yard mark once again as he was able to haul in 10 catches for 105 yards and a TD. Hopkins has been one of the best WRs in the NFL this season as he is just shy of 1000+ yards (894) for the 4th time in 5 years. Watson has also acquired a new target to throw at as the Texans made the move for the former Denver Broncos WR Demaryius Thomas, Thomas caught 3 passes for 61 yards. The defense is where the Texans like to thrive but they have had injuries in the secondary as Kevin Johnson, Aaron Colvin, Andre Hal, and Jonathan Joseph have all been in and out of the lineup. In their recent game against the Broncos safety Justin Reid was able to contribute a team-high 9 tackles while both J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney both contributed a sack apiece.
Washington Redskins's Latest Performance :
The Washington Redskins weren’t picked by many people to win the NFC East but they enter this week with a 2 game lead in the division as they have been led by a strong defense. The Redskins are coming off an impressive win on the road against a good offense in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they held them to 3 points. The Redskins made the switch at QB by going out and acquiring Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs and although he hasn’t lit up the stat sheet he has been a good game manager. Alex Smith threw for 178 yards and 1 TDs against the Bucs but his lack of turning the ball over is what has kept the Redskins afloat as the 34-year-old has only thrown 3 interceptions on the season. Adrian Peterson has stepped into the starting RB role after the Redskins experienced an abundance of injuries at that position and it has paid off in the early going. The 33-year-old was only able to account for 68 yards against the Bucs but that doesn’t take away from his 672-yard season. Alex Smith has had to deal with injuries at the WR position as Jamison Crowder and Paul Richardson have been sidelined but young guys like Josh Doctson has stepped up. The former TCU Horned Frog was able to bring down Alex Smith lone TD pass of the game as he put together a 46-yard performance. The defense is where the Redskins pride themselves and they were able to force 2 interceptions on crucial drives to keep Tampa Bay out of the end zone. CB Josh Norman was able to come away with his 2nd interception of the season at the goal line which he returned the other way for 32 yards.

Against The Spread Selection: Washington Redskins +3
My reason for the pick :
The Washington Redskins have been underestimated all season as they don’t play a favorable style of football but this team is really good on the defensive side of the ball which has allowed them to stay on top of the NFC East. Washington is getting points at home against a similar style team but what I think the difference is here is the fact that the Redskins have a better ground attack. Houston doesn’t have any RBs that can really cause havoc on a defense so I expect the Redskins to zero in on the pass and keep this game close. Expect the Redskins to keep this game close and maybe even win outright at home.
