Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Oakland Raiders vs Arizona Cardinals
The Arizona Cardinals return home to State Farm Stadium after playing on the road as they will welcome in the Oakland Raiders in a cross-conference matchup, the opening kickoff is slated for 4:05 PM. The Arizona Cardinals and Oakland Raiders are both enduring a down year as they sit at the bottom of their respective divisions.
Oakland Raiders's Latest Performance :
The Oakland Raiders have not looked good under 1st-year coach Jon Gruden as they have lost 5 straight games and post a record of 1-8 but Gruden insists this team is improving while he has shipped away some of his top players for draft picks. The Raiders dropped a recent home game against the Los Angeles Chargers as they were unable to find the end zone. QB Derek Carr failed to get much going for the Raiders as he went 24 of 37 for 237 yards with no TDs, Carr enters this week with 10 TD passes and 8 interceptions. The Raiders handed the ball off to Doug Martin 15 times for a total of 61 yards but the biggest play on the ground came when punter Johnny Townsend picked up 42 yards on a fake punt. Martin has started the last two games at RB and he has been effective as he has compiled over 66 carries for 281 yards. The Raiders lost one of their top WRs to trade as Amari Cooper was shipped off to the Cowboys but TE Jared Cook has continued his solid 2018 campaign. The 31-year-old TE leads the Raiders with 546 yards and 3 TDs, and he showed why he is a top target against the Chargers as he had a team-high 52 yards on 4 catches. The defense for the Raiders has been one of the worst units in the NFL and they didn’t show much against the Chargers to change our mind. LB Tahir Whitehead led the way with 7 tackles while safety Marcus Gilchrist came away with his 1st interception of the year.
Arizona Cardinals's Latest Performance :
The Arizona Cardinals went on the road to arguably the best team in the NFL as they faced the Kansas City Chiefs and it ended up as you would expect as they lost 26-14. Rookie QB Josh Rosen has turned the ball over a ton this season and their matchup against the Chiefs was no different as he threw for 2 interceptions compared to only 1 TD. The former UCLA Bruin has started in 6 games this season but he has thrown 8 interceptions and only 6 TDs. The Cardinals have tried to center their offense around RB David Johnson and we finally saw the 27-year-old peak as he ran for 98 yards and 1 TD on 21 carries while adding 7 catches for 85 yards and a TD through the air. Johnson was a top fantasy pick this season and he has not been able to meet expectation as he has combined for 784 yards and 8 TDs. The Cardinals want to get their rookie WR Christian Kirk more involved in the offense and they were unable to get him loose against the Chiefs as he only caught 2 passes for 8 yards, Kirk leads the Cardinals with 418 yards and 2 TDs. TE Ricky Seal-Jones played a big role in their game against the Chiefs as he was able to bring down a total of 5 catches for 51 yards. The Cardinals defense was unable to hold one of the better offenses in the NFL in check as the Chiefs scored 26 points. CB Bene Benwikere had the best game out of any defender as the 27-year-old contributed 9 tackles. DE Chandler Jones was able to get home to the QB on 2 different occasions to extend his season total to 8.5 sacks.

My reason for the pick :
How could one lay 5 points with any of these two teams as I think this will be a very close game due to how bad both teams have been on both sides of the ball. Oakland has found success in the run game with Doug Martin and I think they can ride the veteran RB for most of the game with a shot down the field every once in a while with Carr. The Cardinals have more problems at the QB position than the Raiders as Rosen has more turnovers than Carr in fewer starts. This game feels like it will come down to a game-winning field goal which is why I will take my chance with the points.
