Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars return home to TIAA Bank Stadium after playing 2 consecutive games away from home and they will welcome in the Pittsburgh Steelers in an AFC clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM. The Steelers have rattled off 5 straight wins to give them a firm lead of the AFC North while the Jaguars sit at the bottom of the AFC South after losing 5 straight.

Pittsburgh Steelers's Latest Performance :

The Pittsburgh Steelers have shown us why they are always penciled in as a favorite in the AFC North as they have won 5 straight games behind a strong offensive unit. The Steelers are coming off arguably the biggest win of the season for anyone in the NFL as they stomped over the Carolina Panthers at home 52-21. Veteran QB Ben Roethlisberger had a huge game for the Steelers as he was able to throw for over 328 yards and 5 TDs, one of the best games of his career. Big Ben hasn’t looked like a 36-year-old this season as he is posting one of the best stat lines in the NFL with 2888 yards, 21 TDs, and 7 interceptions. The loss of Le’Veon Bell scared a ton of Steelers fans going into the season but RB James Connor has hushed all the critics and is putting up historic numbers. Connor was only able to rack up 65 yards and 1 TD on 13 carries against the Panthers but that is just a small sample size of what he has done all season as the former Pittsburgh Panther has racked up 771 yards and 10 TDs on the ground as well as 387 yards and 1 TD through the air. Star WR Antonio Brown was able to have yet another big game for Big Ben as the 30-year-old hauled in 6 passes for 96 yards and a TD. The Steelers defense has started to match its offensive unit which has made this team that more dangerous. The Steelers pass rush was able to get home to Cam Newton last outing 5 different times as well as force an interception.LB Jon Bostic racked up a team-high 10 tackles while Vance Williams was on the receiving end of the interception.

Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :

The Jacksonville Jaguars are less than a year removed from their amazing run to the AFC Championship game but it looks like the young talented Jags are nowhere near that level in 2018 as they have dropped 5 consecutive games. The Jaguars went on the road to a division rival in the Indianapolis Colts and gave up 29 points in the first half. Blake Bortles has been a huge reason for the Jaguars having a bad stretch of games but 26-year-old wasn’t terrible against the Colts as he threw for 320 yards and 2 TDs. The biggest problem for Bortles this season has been his turnover rate as he has thrown 8 interceptions and fumbled the ball 6 times. Another big boost to the Jaguars offense was the fact that they got their 2017 1st round pick in Leonard Fournette back and the former LSU Tiger showed why he is a necessity as he rushed for 53 yards and a TD on 24 carries while also adding an additional 56 yards and a TD through the air. WR Donte Moncrieff had a good first game back in his old city as the former Colt led the Jaguars with 98 yards and 1 TD on 3 catches. The Jaguars don’t have a 500-yard receiver but Moncrieff leads the team with 477 yards and 3 TDs. The Jaguars defense was the reason for their success last season but the young talented unit has failed to stop many teams this year. LB Telvin Smith is a motor for the Jags and he showed why he is worth every bit of his big contract by racking up a team-high 8 tackles as well as came down with an interception. Telvin Smith currently leads all Jaguars with 73 tackles and he is also tied for the most interceptions as 5 different guys have 1 apiece.

Against The Spread Selection: Pittsburgh Steelers -5

My reason for the pick :

Oddsmakers are still being generous to the Jacksonville Jaguars despite them losing 5 straight games and I will be taking full advantage of that here and taking the 5 points with the Steelers. The one “strong” area for the Jaguars is their defense but as we saw against the Colts it can easily be shredded through the air. The Steelers have too many options whether its Brown or Juju Smith-Schuster through the air or James Connor pounding the ball down your throat. Jacksonville won’t be able to get much going against the improved Steelers defense which is why I think this will be a lopsided victory on the road for Pittsburgh.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Steelers:

  • Pittsburgh is 4-1 ATS after a win this season.

Betting trends for Jacksonville Jaguars:

  • Jacksonville is 1-3-1 ATS after a loss this season.
