Tennessee Titans vs Houston Texans

The Houston Texans return home to NRG Stadium where they will welcome in the Tennessee Titans in an AFC South clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 8:15 PM. The Houston Texans are winners of 7 straight and have a nice lead in the division while the Titans have played inconsistent football and sit at .500.

Tennessee Titans's Latest Performance :

The Tennessee Titans have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the NFL this season as they beat the Patriots 34-10 two weeks ago but followed that up with a 38-10 loss on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. The Tennessee Titans had a little scare when QB Marcus Mariota went out of the game with an injury and his availability for Sunday is still in question. Mariota didn’t have a great game before his injury as he threw for 85 yards and an interception while adding in 17 yards on the ground. Backup QB Blaine Gabbert came in for Mariota and threw the lone TD pass of the game but also contributed an interception of his own. The ground game was shut down for the most part as former Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry was kept to only 46 yards while Dion Lewis contributed 24 yards. The Titans have been led by the two-headed monster in the backfield all season long as Lewis leads the way with 420 yards and a TD while Henry has 404 yards and 4 TDs. The Titans WRs were unable to get much separation in this game as Tajee Sharp was the lone Titan to record a TD on the game as he caught 5 passes for 37 yards. 2nd-year pro Corey Davis is the lone WR for the Titans to crack the 300-yard mark on the season as he has 606 yards and 2 TDs. DB Adoree’ Jackson has taken a step forward for the Titans this season and he showed his development in their recent game against the Colts as he led the way with 9 tackles which gives him 43 on the season.

Houston Texans's Latest Performance :

The Houston Texans have flown under the radar this NFL season due to the other teams who have taken the league by storm but Bill O’Brien and company have won 7 straight games and sit nicely on the top of the AFC South. The Texans are coming off a nice road victory against the Washington Redskins as they used a last-second FG to go on top 23-21. QB Deshaun Watson was able to throw for 208 yards and a TD but he was sloppy with the ball at times as he threw 2 interceptions. The 2nd-year pro out of Clemson has been a difference maker for this team this season as he has thrown for 2597 yards, 18 TDs, and 9 interceptions while adding 275 yards and a TD on the ground. The ground game has been hit or miss this season but against the Redskins they were able to get a little wiggle room as Lamar Miller ran for 86 yards and Alfred Blue gained 46 yards on 8 carries. The Texans have only gotten 3 TDs out of their RBs this season as Lamar Miller has 2 and Blue has 1. The WR room improved a few weeks back when the Texans added Demaryius Thomas but the former Bronco was kept in check as he didn’t record a catch. The Texans were happy they got back the services of Keke Coutee as he was able to gain 77 yards on 5 catches which was a team-high. The Texans defense has been great all season long and they showed why they were one of the best in the league against Washington. DBs Kareem Jackson and Tyrann Mathieu combined for 19 tackles and 2 sacks while Justin Reid and Brennan Scarlett both came down with an interception.

My reason for the pick :

I am siding with the more consistent team in this matchup as the Texans have been one of the best teams in the nation over the last few weeks while Tennessee has shown us flaws especially on the road. The Tennessee defense is slightly better than the Houston defense in the statistical category but they got exposed last week against Indianapolis. The Texans offense has been doing enough to win games for them in this matchup and I think the air attack will be strong in this matchup. Take Houston to win by a TD at home.
