Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Baltimore Ravens vs Atlanta Falcons
The Atlanta Falcons return home to Mercedes-Benz Stadium after playing on the road last weekend and they will welcome in the Baltimore Ravens in a cross-conference matchup, the opening kickoff is slated at 1:00 PM. The Falcons have slipped to the bottom of the division after losing 3 straight games while Baltimore has put together a small win streak.
Baltimore Ravens's Latest Performance :
The Baltimore Ravens have been able to keep themselves in the playoff hunt the last 2 weeks even without the services of starting QB Joe Flacco as they have relied on a strong ground attack and a good defensive effort. The Ravens were able to beat the Raiders at home 34-17 despite a shaky effort out of their rookie QB Lamar Jackson. Jackson presence has been felt more on the ground than anything else this season but he was only held to 21 yards and a TD on 11 carries as the Raiders keyed in on him. Jackson was unable to get much going through the air as he was only to 178 yards and a TD while contributing 2 interceptions. Undrafted Free Agent Gus Edwards was most of the Ravens offense in their outing against the Raiders as the rookie was able to rush for 118 yards on 23 carries. The Ravens were without their featured RB Alex Collins in this matchup but Edwards has shown the ability to steal some time from Collins as he has rushed for 297 yards and a TD on only 55 carries. Rookie TE Mark Andrews had the biggest play of the game for the Ravens as he brought down a deep pass from Jackson and rumbled 74 yards where he set the Ravens up to score. The defense for the Ravens was solid as always as they forced the Raiders into mistakes and even scored a TD of their own. LB C.J. Mosley led the way with 8 tackles, Matthew Judon had 3 sacks while Terrell Suggs returned a fumble for a TD in the 4th quarter.
Atlanta Falcons's Latest Performance :
The Atlanta Falcons are only two seasons removed from making the Super Bowl but they have not looked like the same team and their latest outing against the New Orleans Saints proved that as they lost 31-17. The Falcons QB Matt Ryan has been a huge reason behind the success of this team the last few years and although he had a solid game against the Saints he was unable to come away with a win. Ryan threw for 377 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 interception which gives the veteran QB 3683 yards, 24 TDs, and 5 interceptions through the first 12 weeks. The ground attack was non-existent against the Saints as the top RB Tevin Coleman was only able to squeeze out 6 yards on 8 carries. The loss Devonta Freeman has killed the Falcons this season as they have relied solely on Coleman who has only rushed for 506 yards and 2 TDs. One of the best WRs in the league in Julio Jones had a solid outing against the Saints secondary as he was able to catch 11 balls for a total of 147 yards. Jones has cracked the 1300-yard mark for a 5th consecutive year as the 8th year pro has totaled 1305 yards and 3 TDs on the season. The defense was unable to hold the high-powered Saints offense in check and reasonably so as their unit is depleted. LB Foyesade Oluokun had a team-high 10 tackles while Damontae Kazee came down with the lone interception of the game.

Against The Spread Selection: Baltimore Ravens -1
My reason for the pick :
This line is a little skewed due to the poor performance of Lamar Jackson last weekend but I think the rookie has done some great things this year as he has pulled an extra defender into the box to make sure they keep the speedy QB in check. Atlanta has an awful defense and Lamar Jackson has the ability to not only shred their depleted secondary through the air but also make an impact on the ground whether it’s in the read option or extending busted plays. The major difference in this game is the fact that the Baltimore defense is playing lights out as they are the best in the NFL. The Ravens are good on every level of the defense and I think they will get enough pressure on Matt Ryan to not allow Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley to tear up the defense down the field. Take the Ravens to extend their win streak.
