Los Angeles Chargers vs Pittsburgh Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers return home to Heinz Field after playing 2 straight games on the road where they will welcome in the Los Angeles Chargers in an AFC clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 8:20 PM. The Steelers sit in 1st place of the AFC North while the Chargers sit nicely inside the playoff picture.
Los Angeles Chargers's Latest Performance :
The Los Angeles Chargers have continued to solidify themselves as a sleeper team in the AFC as they showed the capabilities of their good offense and stingy defense last weekend against the Arizona Cardinals in a 45-10 win. QB Phillip Rivers had one of the best games in NFL history as he was able to complete 25 straight passes for a total of 259 yards and 3 TDs. Phillip Rivers has pushed this team to elite status with his play this season as the 37-year-old has thrown for 3119 yards, 26 TDs, and only 6 interceptions. The Chargers top RB Melvin Gordon had yet another solid game as he ran for 61 yards and 2 TDs but he suffered an injury to his knee which has him out with an unknown return. Melvin Gordon has totaled 1255 scrimmage yards and 13 TDs this season but his backup Austin Ekeler has been solid when given playing time as he has totaled 763 scrimmage yards and 4 TDs. The pass-catching playmakers for the Chargers are a big reason behind their season success and it starts at the WR position with Keenan Allen. Allen was able to lead the way for the Chargers against the Cardinals as he racked up 72 yards and a TD on 7 catches while Mike Williams scored 2 TDs to give him 7 on the season. The Chargers defense gave up 10 quick points against the Cardinals but they shut them out the rest of the way. Rookie Safety Derwin James had a big game for the Chargers with 7 tackles and an interception.
Pittsburgh Steelers's Latest Performance :
The Pittsburgh Steelers used a nice win streak to give them a nice cushion in the AFC North division but they lost their 1st game since 9/30 last week against the Denver Broncos 24-17. The Pittsburgh Steelers have a high powered offense but they were unable to get much going against the Broncos as they were held to 17 points. QB Ben Roethlisberger attempted 56 passes in this outing where he completed 41 of them as he threw for 462 yards and a TD but he also contributed an interception. Big Ben has been one of the best QBs in the NFL this season as he has thrown for 3664 yards and 24 TDs. RB James Conner was limited in this outing compared to his workload in previous weeks as the 23-year-old only rushed for 53 yards and picked up 42 yards through the air but he did cough the ball up when the Steelers were in the red zone. James Conner has the potential to reach 1000-yards in this matchup as he currently sits at 849 yards and 10 TDs through the first 12 weeks of the season. The Broncos tried to eliminate the presence of Antonio Brown as he was held to 67 yards on 9 catches but JuJu Smith-Schuster was able to get loose for 189 yards and 1 TD. The improved Steelers defense was unable to duplicate what they have been doing all season long as they only recorded 2 sacks and no turnovers. Rookie Safety Terrell Edmunds was able to lead the team with 8 tackles while Vince Williams recorded 4.5 sack of the season.

My reason for the pick :
This should be a fun matchup to watch as we have 2 of the best offenses going head-to-head with good defenses to complement them but I have to go with the overall more rounded team with that being the Chargers. Phillip Rivers has been playing lights out this season and although the loss of Melvin Gordon hurts this team Ekeler has shown the ability to be a lead back this season. Denver set the tone on how to defend the Steelers as they sell out on the ground game and double team Antonio Brown. The Chargers have the pass rush to cause havoc on the Steelers offensive line and I think that is a difference maker in this game. Take the points with the Chargers in this game as they should at the very least keep this game close.
