Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Los Angeles Rams vs Detroit Lions
The Detroit Lions return home to Ford Field for a 3rd consecutive home game where they will play host to the Los Angeles Rams in an NFC clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM. The Los Angeles Rams are still one of the best teams in the NFL even after a bye while the Lions are struggling to find an identity.
Los Angeles Rams's Latest Performance :
The Los Angeles Rams have shown us week in and week out why they are one of the best teams in the NFL and coming off a bye the Rams are looking to continue their level of success in route to a Super Bowl. The Rams in their previous game took down the best team out of the AFC as they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 54-51 in a fun Monday Night Football game. The Rams are led by QB Jared Goff who has been one of the best in the NFL and he showed exactly why against the Chiefs as he threw for 413 yards and 4 TDs while adding in a rushing TD. Goff has benefited the most out of Sean McVay as the 24-year-old has thrown for 3547 yards, 26 TDs, and 6 interceptions in the high-powered air raid scheme. RB Todd Gurley was limited against the Chiefs as he was only able to squeeze out 55 yards on 12 carries which is well below his season average. Gurley has put himself towards the top of MVP talks as he compiled 1484 yards from scrimmage with 14 TDs. The Rams pass catchers have had to step up in the wake of Cooper Kupp being injured and they have done that. WR Brandin Cooks had a solid outing for Goff as he caught 8 balls for 107 yards while Josh Reynolds, Robert Woods, and Gerald Everett combined for 4 TDs. The defense for the Rams is one of the better ones on paper and although they did let up 51 points against a great offense they did contribute 2 TDs. John Johnson led the way for the Rams with 11 tackles while LB Samson Ebukam had an interception for a TD as well as picked up a fumble for a TD.
Detroit Lions's Latest Performance :
The Detroit Lions may play in one of the toughest divisions in football which could be a reason they sit in last place but they are also unsure of their identity as they have traded away big-name players as well as struggled to keep much consistency in their game plan. The Lions dropped their recent game against divisional rival in the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving day 23-16. QB Matthew Stafford has lost weapons in the previous weeks with Golden Tate being shipped out and Marvin Jones being sidelined once again with an injury. Stafford was unable to look like an elite QB against the Bears as he only threw for 236 yards and 2 interceptions which gives him 10 on the season. The one bright spot of the Lions offense against the Bears was the elevated play out of veteran RB LeGarrette Blount who rushed for 88 yards and 2 TDs in the wake of starting RB Kerryon Johnson. Although there aren’t many top options for Matthew Stafford to choose from he still was able to hit 11 different guys. WR Kenny Golladay has taken over the role as the top pass catcher for the Lions and he showed why against the Bears as he compiled 5 catches for 90 yards which gives him 804 yards on the season. The Lions defense has not looked improved under defensive-minded coach Matt Patricia as they were unable to rattle a backup QB last week. Safety Glover Quin led the way with 8 tackles and a sack while Damon Harrison contributed 1.5 sacks.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Rams -10
My reason for the pick :
This is a tale of two teams heading in opposite directions as the Rams will be looking to close out their season on a high note while the Lions are limping to the finish line. The Rams are obviously the better team but they are coming off a bye which has allowed them to get healthy and have 2 weeks to prepare for one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Rams should be able to expose the Lions down the field as well as on the ground as the Lions rank last in the NFL in rushing defense. The Rams pass rush will be too much for Stafford to handle which should force some turnovers. The Rams should roll in this one no problem so I will side with them.
