Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Minnesota Vikings vs New England Patriots
The New England Patriots return home to Gillette Stadium after playing on the road for 2 straight weeks and they will welcome in the Minnesota Vikings, the opening kickoff is slated for 4:25 PM. The Patriots are on track to clinch the AFC East and secure a top spot in the playoffs while Minnesota is looking to secure a spot in the Wild Card.
Minnesota Vikings's Latest Performance :
The Minnesota Vikings looked like a surefire bet to make it back to the postseason after falling one game short of the Super Bowl last season but after a midseason skid, they now find themselves fighting for a Wild Card spot. QB Kirk Cousins showed the NFL why he is being paid the big bucks last weekend against the Green Bay Packers as he threw for 342 yards and 3 TDs. Cousins has been a much-needed improvement at the QB position as the 30-year-old has thrown for 3289 yards, 22 TDs, and 7 interceptions on the season. The Vikings have been trying to develop more of a balanced attack this season but the RBs have been unable to get much running room behind a depleted offensive line. RB Dalvin Cook was only able to run for 29 yards on 10 carries while Latavius Murray had 11 carries for 33 yards. The Vikings have yet to get either of the two running backs over the 500-yard mark on the season as Latavius Murray has 455 yards and 5 TDs. Minnesota is led by a two-headed monster at WR as Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs are one of the best duos in the NFL. Thielen had yet another great game for the Vikings as he caught 8 passes for 125 yards and a TD which gives him 1138 yards and 8 TDs on the season. The defense for the Vikings showed their elite level last weekend against the Packers as they were able to keep Aaron Rodgers in check. DT Sheldon Richardson had a solid outing for the Vikings as he racked up 7 tackles and 2 sacks while Tom Johnson and Everson Griffen contributed a sack each.
New England Patriots's Latest Performance :
The New England Patriots came off a much-needed bye week last weekend and rallied over the New York Jets in the 2nd half as they won 27-13. The Patriots were led by QB Tom Brady who had yet another productive outing as he threw for 283 yards and 2 TDs which gives the 41-year-old 3031 yards, 19 TDs, and 7 interceptions on the season. A reason for the Patriots success against the Jets was the resurgence of a ground attack as rookie Sony Michel was back and healthy against the Jets. Michel was able to run for 133 yards and a TD on 21 carries which gives the rookie out of Georgia 586 yards and 5 TDs on the season. One guy the Patriots want to get going is RB James White as the pass-catching back has not had as big as a performance out of the backfield. White was only able to record 1 catch for 5 yards but that is not to say he didn’t produce anything as he ran for 73 yards on 9 carries. The Patriots have a strong aerial attack and it only got better last week against the Jets as TE Rob Gronkowski returned to the lineup. Gronkowski was able to show why he is one of the best in the game as the 29-year-old brought down 3 catches for 59 yards and a TD. The defense for the Patriots has been above average all season long but they need to force more turnovers if they want to be successful in the playoffs. Safety Patrick Chung had a great outing for the Pats as he had 13 tackles while CB Stephon Gilmore came away with his 2nd interception of the season.

My reason for the pick :
This should be a fun matchup and essentially a must-win for both teams as the Vikings want to better their chances of making the postseason while the Patriots want to secure home-field advantage. The Vikings were able to put together a complete performance last weekend against the Packers as they were able to move the ball as well as hold one of the best QBs in NFL history in check. The Vikings defense should have yet another good game here against the Patriots and keep this game close for a Vikings offense who has shown spurts of excellence. I will take the points in this game in what should be a game decided by a FG.
