Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cleveland Browns vs Houston Texans
The Cleveland Browns will visit NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, to battle the Houston Texans on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Browns are coming into this matchup winners of two straight after losing four games in a row, as their last win came against the Cincinnati Bengals as they were able to pick up the 35-20 road win last weekend. The Browns went up 28 – 0 at the half while cruising to victory in the second behind four touchdown passes by Baker Mayfield along with a touchdown run by Nick Chubb.
The Houston Texans won their 8th straight game by picking up a 34 – 17 home win over the Tennessee Titans in a game where they were up 27-10 at one point behind two scores from Deshaun Watson (one in the air and one on the ground) along with a rushing TD from Lamar Miller. The last time these two teams met was on October 15th 2017, as the Texans picked up the 33-17 home win while covering the spread as 7.5 point home underdogs. The Browns are winless against the spread in the last four meetings in Houston while the under has been the play in six of the last 8 meetings amongst these two teams.
Cleveland Browns's Latest Performance :
The Cleveland Browns come into this game winners of two straight, as stated, as they were able to beat up on their in-state rival in the Cincinnati Bengals on the road in their last outing by 15 points. Baker Mayfield had a stellar outing in throwing for four touchdown passes while Nick Chubb led the rushing attack with 84 yards on 24 carries for the day along with a touchdown. David njoku had a touchdown reception in the game while having 63 receiving yards on five catches while Antonio Callaway also had a touchdown catch while racking up 62 yards receiving on the day.
The defense for the Browns limited the Bengals to 129 yards rushing on the day while Jeff driskel passed for 155 yards and a touchdown in the loss. In all, the Browns seem to be clicking on all cylinders at this point in the season and will certainly like to continue their playe versus a Houston Texans squad that has also been equally as effective on both sides of the ball.
Houston Texans 's Latest Performance :
The Houston Texans continue to pick up wins this season as they find themselves still atop the AFC South standings with a record of 8 – 3. DeShaun Watson continues to impress at quarterback as he has thrown for at least 200 yards in six of the last eight games for the Texans while his touchdown to interception ratio stands at 15 – 6. In the last outing versus the Titans, Watson passed for 210 yards along with two TDs in the contest to Demaryius Thomas, with the last sealing the scoring for Houston on a 10 yard pass touchdown. Their leader in receiving yards this year, DeAndre Hopkins, lead the receiving corps with 74 yards total for the game, as he failed to score a touchdown in the first time in his last six outings.
Lamar Miller was the man on the ground as he rushed for 162 yards along with a touchdown versus Tennessee as he is currently averaging a tad over five yards per carry in his last four outings. Despite this, the offense for the Texans were only able to muster 180 yards for the game while being out gained by Tennessee as they were able to finish with 260 yards as the defense for the Texans limited them to only 105 yards on the ground while Marcus Mariota threw for 303 yards in the air along with two touchdown passes, despite being sacked 6 times in the contest. Look for the Texans to continue their stellar play on both ends of the ball versus a Cleveland team that has suddenly found a bit of momentum after a potentially disastrous 2018 campaign.
How Cleveland Browns & Houston Texans Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Cleveland is 7 – 4 ATS while the OU is 6 – 5
Houston is 5 – 6 ATS while the OU is 5 – 6
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting matchup in that you have two teams that will be desperate to extend their winning ways as the Texans are 4-0 in the last four home games while covering the spread in the last two at NRG Stadium. On the other hand, the Browns are 1-3 in their last four road games yet the momentum picked up from wins over the Atlanta Falcons along with the Cincinnati Bengals may be enough for the road team to make this game interesting in the end.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Cleveland Browns + 6
My reason for the pick :
While the Houston Texans have played great on ball on both sides lately, I will back the Cleveland Browns to cover the spread in this matchup as the Houston Texans, despite their ability to pull out slim victories, remains to be a very inconsistent, particularly in their passing attack. Of course, Watson has been effective at using his arms and legs to win games for Houston; However, teams will soon begin to attempt to take away the rushing attack for the Texans in which to allow him to pick a part their respective pass secondaries. I happen to believe that this will be one of those games as the Browns, despite being ranked 28th in the league in stopping the rush, will have gained some momentum in totally neutralizing high powered offenses in the Falcons and the Bengals in recent weeks, thus allowing them to keep this game close throughout.
Totals Selection: Pick: Over 48
My reason for the prediction :
I will pick the over in this matchup in that it has been the mantra for the Browns not only after a straight-up win, but, versus AFC teams, as a whole. In fact, the over has been to play in three of the last four games for the Browns, overall, particularly due to their resurgence on offense. On the other hand, the over has also been the result in three of the last four games for the Texans as well. It is for this reason that I will also side with the over in this contest as both teams will certainly put points on the board in what will be a very competitive matchup among two teams that continue to pick up victories.
Betting trends for Cleveland Browns:
- Over is 4-0 in Browns last 4 vs. AFC.
Over is 4-0 in Browns last 4 games following a straight up win.
Over is 5-0 in Browns last 5 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.
Betting trends for Houston Texans :
- Houston Texans are 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games in December.
Under is 4-0 in Texans last 4 games after scoring more than 30 points in their previous game.
Texans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
