Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Baltimore Ravens vs Kansas City Chiefs
The Baltimore Ravens will travel to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, to face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Ravens have recovered nicely from a rough patch in which they won only one of five games in winning their third straight game versus the Atlanta Falcons in their last outing by a 26 – 16 score at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The defense for the Ravens were able to neutralize a potent offensive attack for Atlanta throughout the game as the home team was able to only rack up 131 yards for the contest while the rushing attack for Baltimore obtained 270 yards on the ground en route to the victory.
The Kansas City Chiefs atoned for a slim loss to the Los Angeles Rams in their prior outing by edging the Oakland Raiders by a 40-33 score on the road as Pat Mahomes recovered to throw four touchdowns on the night as the Chiefs were able to fend off a late rally by the Raiders in the fourth period in which to come out with a victory. The road team is 5-2 against the spread in the last 7 meetings amongst these two teams.
Baltimore Ravens's Latest Performance :
As stated, after a rough patch in which Baltimore would lose 4 of 5, the team has returned to form as both the offense and defense have been clicking much better lately as they are winners of their last three contests, overall. In fact, the offense has averaged 27 points in their last three outings while the defense has returned to form as well in allowing just 18 points per game. The defense was certainly outstanding versus the Atlanta Falcons on the road as they allowed Matt Ryan to throw for only 131 yards along with a TD pass to Austin Hooper, who led the team in receiving yards with 44 for the contest. Julio Jones only had 18 yards receiving on two catches for the day while the rushing attack only put up 34 yards on a day where the Ravens also sacked Ryan three times.
Lamar Jackson, filling in for a Joe Flacco who has an injured hip, passed for 125 yards on the day with no touchdowns nor interceptions. Unfortunately, Jackson is also questionable for this matchup with a concussion. Nonetheless, if the Ravens rushing attack continues to gain steam, they may not need the passing attack as much as they rushed for 287 yards versus a shaky Atlanta defensive front as Gus Edwards led the way with 82 yards in the contest. Again, Baltimore has been led by their defense all season and will certainly go into this game looking to neutralize a potent offensive attack of Kansas City.
Kansas City Chiefs's Latest Performance :
Though Patrick Mahomes threw for six touchdowns in the Chiefs last outing versus the Los Angeles Rams, he also threw three costly interceptions in what was their first loss in four games, overall. Kansas City ended up losing this matchup versus Los Angeles by three points on the road in what was a high-scoring affair throughout. They were also involved in yet another high-scoring affair on the road versus the Oakland Raiders last weekend as they pulled off a seven-point road win despite the Raiders scoring 17 points in the final quarter.
As stated, Mahomes threw four touchdown passes while throwing for 295 yards for the game while the rushing attack for the Chiefs obtained 174 yards on the night with Mahomes also leading the pack with 52 yards on the ground on 9 attemps. Of course, the quarterback’s favorite target was Travis Kelce as he ended the game with 168 yards on 12 receptions for two touchdowns for an all-important win for Kansas City. On the other hand, the defense was also punished on the ground, as is expected for a Kansas City team that allows opponents to rush for 122 yards per outing.
Nonetheless, the Chiefs allowed 171 yards rushing to the Raiders in this outing as they were led by Jalen Richard with 95 yards on six carries. Derek Carr was sacked 3 times in the game for Oakland yet passed for a tad under 300 yards for the game while also tossing three touchdown passes in the loss. Kansas City sits atop the AFC West Division and will have a home matchup versus the second-seeded Los Angeles Chargers next weekend. With that being the case, they will certainly want to get in an outstanding performance versus a solid Baltimore team before the division will likely be decided.
How Baltimore Ravens & Kansas City Chiefs Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Baltimore is 6 – 6 ATS while the OU is 5 – 7
Kansas City is 8 – 3 – 1 ATS while the OU is 7 – 4
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be one of the more interesting games of the weekend as you will have a Baltimore team going into Arrowhead Stadium in which to face a Kansas City Chiefs team that showed much resilience in picking up a win after only their second loss of the season versus the Rams. In this case, you will have a defensive-minded club in the Ravens versus an offensive-minded team in the Chiefs. It is for this reason that I expect both teams to come out focused in this matchup as a win will truly be imperative. Baltimore currently sits in second place within the AFC North Division behind the Pittsburgh Steelers and will certainly move a half-game out of the top slot if they are to win this game. Kansas City on the other hand, sits atop the AFC West Division and will certainly want to keep space between themselves and the Los Angeles Chargers, to whom they have a date with next weekend, as stated.
Against The Spread Selection: Pick:Kansas City Chiefs - 7
My reason for the pick :
While I happen to believe that Baltimore will certainly bring their defensive-minded attitude into this matchup vs the Chiefs, expect the home team to come out with a huge home victory in this contest this weekend. Mahomes continues to play well and likely will do so versus a Ravens defense that may may find it difficult in which to matchup with the many playmakers for the home team late in the game. This, of course, will allow KC to maintain a lead while also covering the touchdown spread.
Totals Selection: Pick: Under 53
My reason for the prediction :
I see this as being a highly competitive yet low-scoring contest amongst two teams that will certainly be looking to continue their success. Of course, Jackson and Company will indeed find some success versus a leaky Kansas City defensive unit that has been allowing points left and right; However, the Chiefs will also be looking to grind out some long drives on the offensive end in which to limit the number of times that the Baltimore offense will take the field. It is for this reason that I will choose the under as a strong play in this match up as this philosophy will certainly result in the clock continuing to run.
