Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Detroit Lions vs Arizona Cardinals

The Detroit Lions will travel to University of Phoenix stadium in Phoenix, Arizona, to face the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at 4:25 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Both teams have struggled throughout the year as well as lately as the Detroit Lions have lost four of their last five and two straight after suffering a 30 – 16 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams in their last outing as Todd Gurley and the rushing attack proved to be the difference in the game as he ended with 132 yards rushing along with two touchdown runs en route to the victory.

On the other hand, the Arizona Cardinals ended a 3 game losing streak by picking up a win over the Green Bay Packers by a 20-17 score at home as a Zane Gonzalez 44 yard field goal sealed the victory for the home team while the Green Bay  Packers fell once again at home. The Lions picked up the 35-23 home win over the Cardinals in their last matchup yet are 0-6 against the spread in their last six meetings versus the Cardinals in Arizona.

Detroit Lions 's Latest Performance :

Detroit Lions, as stated, have also struggled recently as they have lost four of their last five and two straight after being whipped by the Los Angeles Rams at home last weekend. In this matchup, Matthew Stafford was sacked four times in the game while throwing for 245 yards, a touchdown, along with an interception. On the other hand, Detroit racked up 102 yards on the ground with LeGarrette Blount having 61 yards on 16 carries while Levine Toilolo led the receiving corps with 90 yards on four receptions on the day.

As stated, the defense for Detroit allowed Los Angeles to control the pace throughout as their rushing game took center stage with Gurly having to TD’s on the night. Also, Jared Goff threw for 207 yards along with a TD and an interception in the win for the Rams. I happen to believe that the defense for Detroit has been pretty solid throughout their current losing streak, however, their offense has simply been dismal has Matthew Stafford and company has simply not been able to get anything going consistently on this end. They will, however, look to right the ship versus an Arizona team that is ranked 4th in the nation in defending the pass yet ranks near the bottom in rush defense, overall.

Arizona Cardinals's Latest Performance :

The Cardinals are coming off a rough stretch of games to where they only put up 15  points per game on the offensive end while the defense gave up 34 points, all in their last three outings.   Nonetheless, they were able to temporarily erase the sting of those losses with a much-needed three-point home win over the struggling Green Bay Packers last weekend. In this contest, Josh Rosen did not throw any touchdowns nor interceptions, however, threw for 149 yards on the night as he went an awful 11-26 passing. On the other hand, Rosen received help from the rushing game of Arizona as they racked up 182 yards on a terrible Green Bay rush defense as David Johnson had 69 yards on 20 attemps. Larry Fitzgerald had three receptions for 48 yards in the win for the Cardinals, who certainly looks to end the season on a strong note. However, with games versus Atlanta, the Rams, along with the Seahawks to end the season, it could very well continue to get worse for the Cardinals as the season winds down.

How Detroit Lions & Arizona Cardinals Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Detroit is 6 – 6 ATS while the OU is  6-6

Arizona is 6 – 5 – 1 ATS while the OU is 5 – 7

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will certainly be an interesting game amongst two teams that have certainly had their fair share of struggles lately. On one hand, you have the Detroit Lions who are coming into this game only winning one of their last five games, overall. On the other hand, you have an Arizona team that recently broke a three-game skid by picking up a huge win over Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers on the road. The Cardinals now return home to where they have only won one game in their last five outings while the Lions will  also prepare to go on the road where they have not been so good, either, in going 1-4 in the last 5 road games, overall.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:Detroit Lions - 2.5

My reason for the pick :

While much respect can be given to the Arizona Cardinals for erecting themselves out of a horrible losing streak in their last outing versus Green Bay at Lambeau, I will back the Detroit Lions in this matchup as I happen to believe that they continue to have a dangerous passing attack with Matthew Stafford under center. The problem is that they continue to allow too many mental mistakes as well as offensive breakdowns throughout the game to prevent them from winning consistently. This  will change versus the Cardinals in this matchup as they will be able to utilize the running game much more while taking some of the pressure off of Stafford at the same time.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 40.5

My reason for the prediction :

Due to the way in which both defenses have played all season, at first glance, one would certainly look at the over has being the play in this contest. However, both offenses have been struggling so much lately that,  despite matching up versus a shaky defense, I am not sure as to whether they will be able to take full advantage of the opportunities that they will be confronted with throughout the contest. With that being said, I will back the under in this contest as the Lions will certainly put some points on the board due to their ability to run the ball on a terrible defensive front for Arizona, while the Cardinals will also put just enough points on the board in which to remain competitive in what will be a low-scoring matchup throughout.

Betting trends for Detroit Lions :

  • Lions are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
Lions are 7-1-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
Over is 5-1 in Lions last 6 games on grass.

Betting trends for Arizona Cardinals:

  • Cardinals are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. NFC.
Cardinals are 0-4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.
Under is 6-1 in Cardinals last 7 games after accumulating less than 150 yards passing in their previous game.
