Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

New York Giants vs Washington Redskins

The New York Giants will travel to FedEx Field in Washington, DC, to face the Washington Redskins on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. eastern time in an NFC East showdown. The Giants coming to this matchup winning three of their last four contests as their last win came at home versus the short-handed Chicago Bears as they picked up the 30-27 win due to an Aldrick Rojas 44 yard field goal which sealed the victory for the Giants in overtime.

The Washington Redskins have been horrible since the injury to Alex Smith as they lost their third straight game as they suffered the 28-13 division loss on the road to the Philadelphia  Eagles in their last contest as the offense only racked up 235 total yards for the game while allowing the Eagles to put up 436 yards total for the day. The last time these two teams met was on October 28th as the Redskins picked up a 20-13 road win as they also covered as 1 point favorites. The under has been the play in five of the last six meetings amongst these teams at FedEx Field.

New York Giants's Latest Performance :

The New York Giants have somehow recollected themselves in order to win three of their last four games with their last coming over the Chicago Bears at home has Saquon Barkley collected his second 100-plus yard rushing night as he ended the game with 125 yards on the ground on 24 carries while Eli Manning threw  for a 170 yards along with a TD and an interception in the win. Both Russell Shepard and Odell Beckham jr. caught touchdown passes from Manning in the contest as they combined for 94 yards on five receptions for the Giants.

And while the Giants allowed 285 yards passing for Chase Daniel in relief of injured Mitch Trubisky, Daniel also threw two interceptions on the game alongside a touchdown pass that tied the game early at 7 all. New York’s 24th ranked rush defense also allowed 118 yards rushing to the Bears as Jordan Howard had 76 yards on 18 attempts in the loss.

The Giants continue to reside in the cellar of the NFC East Division as a win versus the Redskins will put them at the door of overtaking the third place slot from Washington, altogether. With that being the case, the Giants must continue to get production from their rushing game in Barkley, while Manning will also have to step up a bit in which to take advantage of an outstanding receiving corps for the Giants in which to win moving forward.

Washington Redskins's Latest Performance :

Colt McCoy went 4-4 in passing for only 50 yards in the Redskins last outing versus the Eagles while Mark Sanchez passed for 100 yards on the night as Washington continues to find a viable candidate in which to spearhead the offense moving forward. Of course, Adrian Peterson has made it much easier for each of the quarterbacks lately as he obtained 98 yards on the ground along with a touchdown versus the Eagles, yet the rushing attack only collected 104 yards on the day.

Defensively, the Redskins allowed the Eagles to rack up 130 yards on the ground versus Washington in the game  while Carson Wentz passed for 306 yards along with two touchdowns along with an interception in the much-needed win for Philadelphia. In all, the injuries are beginning to mount up for the Redskins as Colt McCoy is now out for the season with a shin injury which leaves Mark Sanchez as the most viable option at this point in the season. As stated, he threw for only 100 yards in his last outing, however, will have a full week of practice to prepare for the Giants on Sunday.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an all-important NFC Showdown, as stated, as the Giants will look to win their second straight game and fourth in five games versus the Redskins on Sunday afternoon. On the other hand, the Redskins will look to finally get back into the win column after a rough stretch of play where they have struggled on the offensive end. Also, the Redskins and Giants represent the third and fourth place teams within the NFC East Division  as the Redskins have a full 2 game lead over New York. With that being said, look for both teams to come out focused on getting a win in this matchup as the Giants will look to increase his positioning within the division while finishing up strong on the year while the Redskins will look to somehow get their season back on track before it’s too late.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: New York Giants -3.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the New York Giants in this matchup as the Redskins have essentially struggled too much on the offensive end lately and which to keep themselves competitive within games, as of late. Of course, Adrian Peterson has done his best on the ground in which to keep the Redskins in contests during their current losing streak, however, Colt McCoy nor Mark Sanchez will not be the answer for the Redskins woes at this point in the season. With that being said, look for the Giants to continue their stellar play on the offensive end, particularly in their rushing attack, as they will pull away from Washington late in the game in which to seal and all important victory while covering the spread in the meantime.

Totals Selection: Pick: Under 41

My reason for the prediction :

Keep in mind that this will indeed be a division game from both teams, which means that the intensity level will certainly be there for both squads. On the other hand, also combine into the equation  that the under was the play in the last matchups amongst these teams as both defenses limited the offenses scoring opportunities throughout the game. With that being said, I happen to believe that this game will be a microcosm of their first matchup as the Giants will look to utilize a ball-control offense now that their rushing attack has shown signs of production lately. On the other hand, also look for Washington to rely on Adrian Peterson throughout the contest in which to keep the home team competitive. It is for this reason that I will back the under in this contest as the clock will continue to run as both teams will look to establish themselves on the ground throughout the course of the game.
