Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Los Angeles Chargers vs Kansas City Chiefs
The Kansas City Chiefs will return home to Arrowhead Stadium for their 2nd consecutive home game where they will take on the Los Angeles Chargers in an AFC West clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 8:20 PM. Kansas City holds a slight advantage in the division but a Los Angeles win knots the lead up between these two teams.
Los Angeles Chargers's Latest Performance :
The Los Angeles Chargers may not be in the lead of the AFC West but they surely are a threat to the AFC come postseason time as they have a great offense to go along with a stingy defense. The Chargers are coming off a big win at home as they were able to overcome the upset-minded Cincinnati Bengals late in the game 26-21. QB Phillip Rivers was once again very efficient with the ball as he threw for 220 yards and 1 TD which gives the veteran 3638 yards, 29 TDs, and only 6 interceptions through the first 13 games. The ground game took a blow when Melvin Gordon went down with an injury as he has been one of the best all-purpose backs in the NFL with over 1255 yards and 13 TDs but matters have gotten worse. Austin Ekeler was only able to compile 66 yards and a TD on the ground but he left the game with an injury and his status is questionable against Kansas City which leaves Justin Jackson as the lone RB on the roster. WR Keenan Allen has stepped up in a big way this season for the Chargers and he did once again against the Bengals as he caught 5 passes for 78 yards and a TD. The defense for the Chargers is often overlooked but they are a top 10 unit with talent at every level. Jahleel Addae was able to rack up a team-high 8 tackles last weekend while Joey Bosa recorded his 4th sack of the season.
Kansas City Chiefs's Latest Performance :
The Kansas City Chiefs were able to maintain their slight lead in the AFC West after surviving an OT win against the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. The Kansas City offense was humming especially through the air which is a positive sign to see against the #1 defense in the NFL. QB Patrick Mahomes looks like a surefire bet to win the MVP especially after the 2nd year pro threw for 377 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 interception. Mahomes enters this divisional matchup with 4300 yards, 43 TDs, and 11 interceptions but the lack of a ground game will cause defenses to lock into Mahomes 99% of the time. Ever since the Chiefs leading rusher in Kareem Hunt (824 yards & 7 TDs) was released the ground game has been nonexistent. Spencer Ware has taken over as the starting tailback and although he was able to record 75 yards against the Ravens it was Damien Williams who punched in the lone rushing TD of the game. The pass catchers for Kansas City are another reason this team is special as they have weapons at WR, TE, and RB. WR Tyreek Hill had a big outing against Baltimore as he racked up 139 yards on 8 catches while TE Travis Kelce caught his 10th TD pass of the season. The defense stepped up big for the Chiefs especially late in the game as they forced turnovers and recorded stops in big moments. LB Anthony Hitchens had the biggest game out of any Chief defender as he recorded 9 tackles while Justin Houston was able to pitch in 1.5 sacks.

My reason for the pick :
I have put my money on both teams a lot this season which has allowed me to scout both teams and although they are fairly even the advantage goes to Kansas City at home. Los Angeles may be without their top 2 RBs which will cause the Chargers to stick to an aerial attack or rely on a rookie RB something I am not comfortable backing on the road. The Chiefs offense showed the ability to throw on the top defense in the NFL and nothing should change here as Los Angeles won’t be able to stop Mahomes and the boys. Kansas City has been weak on the defensive side of the ball all season long but with a divisional title on the line at home, they should come ready to play. Back the home team.
