Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Cleveland Browns vs Denver Broncos

The Denver Broncos will return home to Mile High Stadium after playing two consecutive road games and they will welcome in the Cleveland Browns in an AFC clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 8:20 PM. The Denver Broncos were in good position to snag the last Wild Card spot but a loss has set them back while the young Browns are playing some of their best football in years.

Cleveland Browns's Latest Performance :

The Cleveland Browns have been much improved under interim coach Gregg Williams as they have won 3 of their last 4 matchups and have their offense humming on all cylinders. Rookie QB Baker Mayfield has been amazing all season long and he showed his potential by shredding a fairly good Carolina Panthers defense last weekend. Mayfield was able to complete 18 of his 22 passes for a total of 238 yards and a TD. Mayfield has only started in 10 games this season but the former Heisman Trophy winner is posting a solid stat line with 2877 passing yards, 19 TDs, and 10 interceptions. The youth doesn’t stop at the QB position as rookie RB Nick Chubb has taken over as the full-time starter after a couple of big outings. Chubb was able to rush for 66 yards and a TD on 13 carries against the Panthers which gives him 760 yards and 8 TDs on the season. WR Jarvis Landry is the veteran of the group and he has played well with Baker Mayfield at the helm which he showed last weekend as he caught 3 passes for 57 yards and a TD while also adding in 54 rushing yards and a TD. The defense has continued to improve as the season has gone on and they were able to cause havoc on QB Cam Newton. Veteran DB Damarious Randall had a team-high 9 tackles as well as recorded an interception which was his 4th of the season.

Denver Broncos's Latest Performance :

The Denver Broncos were one of the hottest teams in the AFC entering their road clash last weekend against the San Francisco 49ers but the offense was stopped in their tracks against the upset-minded home team 20-14. The Broncos veteran QB Case Keenum has gained more confidence over the recent stretch of games which has allowed for the coaches to put the ball in his hands. Keenum attempted 42 passes against the 49ers where he completed 24 for a total of 186 yards and a TD. Keenum didn’t light up the stat sheet by any means but he was responsible with the ball which is a positive step moving forward as he has thrown 15 TDs compared to 10 interceptions. The Broncos success on offense has been because of the emergence of rookie RB Phillip Lindsay but the undrafted free agent was unable to get much going last weekend. Lindsay racked up 14 carries but he was only able to break through for 30 yards and a TD. Lindsay has been stellar on the ground as well as through the air as he has racked up 1177 scrimmage yards and 10 TDs through the first 13 games. With Emmanuel Sanders being sidelined with an injury the Broncos depended on their young WR corp and it proved to work as Tim Patrick led the way with 85 yards on 7 receptions. The Broncos defense has been a huge reason behind the team’s overall success this season but the secondary looked lost without Chris Harris. LB Todd Davis led the charge for the unit with 8 tackles while the strong pass rush which consists of Bradley Chubb and Von Miller combined for 3 sacks.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

Cleveland ranks 19th in the NFL in team scoring as they score an average of 22.5 PPG while Denver ranks 20th as they score an average of 22.3 PPG.

Denver ranks 9th in the NFL in team defense as they hold opponents to an average of 21.7 PPG while Cleveland ranks 24th as they hold opponents to an average of 25.5 PPG.

Against The Spread Selection: Cleveland Browns +3

My reason for the pick :

I simply can’t trust the Denver Broncos and their inconsistent offense even at home as they have failed to show me that they can score even against the worst defenses. The Denver defense is solid but they looked lost against the San Francisco 49ers last weekend and I can guarantee you that Baker Mayfield is better than Nick Mullens. The Browns have been clicking on all cylinders as their ground game has supplemented Baker Mayfield and Jarvis Landry nicely and I think they continue to find success in a primetime Saturday night game. Take the Brownies and the free FG as I think they could win this outright.

Betting trends for Cleveland Browns:

  • Cleveland is 6-4 ATS as an underdog this season.

Betting trends for Denver Broncos:

  • Denver is 0-2-1 ATS as a home favorite this season.
