Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Oakland Raiders vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Cincinnati Bengals return home to Paul Brown Stadium after playing on the road last weekend and they will welcome in the Oakland Raiders in an AFC clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM. The Bengals and Raiders both sit at the bottom of their respective divisions which has both teams looking forward to the NFL draft.
Oakland Raiders's Latest Performance :
The Oakland Raiders are experiencing a down season in year 1 of Jon Gruden but they finally got the signature win they were looking for last weekend as they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 24-21 in an emotion-filled game. QB Derek Carr has received a great deal of criticism this season but the 27-year-old had arguably the best game of his season. Carr was able to complete 25 of his 34 passes for a total of 322 yards and 2 TDs but more importantly, he didn’t turn the ball over. Carr isn’t having the year we thought he would in the Gruden offense as he has thrown for 3434 yards, 18 TDs, and 8 interceptions but this game was an example of what he can do. Veteran RB Doug Martin has been given little opportunity to shine in his 6 starts due to the Raiders always playing from behind and the lack of red zone opportunities they have had. Martin was able to rack up his 3rd TD of the season as the 29-year-old racked up 16 carries for a total of 32 yards. If there has been one bright spot in the Raiders offense this season it has been the consistent play out of TE Jared Cook. Cook had a big outing against the Steelers as he racked up 7 catches for a total of 116 yards which puts the veteran at 825 yards on the season. The defense has been awful all season but the unit played some inspired football against the Steelers. LB Tahir Whitehead had a huge outing as he racked up a team-high 10 tackles while also recording his 1st interception of the season.
Cincinnati Bengals's Latest Performance :
The Cincinnati Bengals have gone 0-5 over their last 5 games which has dropped a once playoff contender to the bottom of the AFC North standings. The Bengals traveled out west for a clash with the Los Angeles Chargers and despite a good effort they fell 26-21. QB Jeff Driskel has stepped into the starting role after Andy Dalton went down with an injury and the 25-year-old has started to look more comfortable. Driskel attempted 27 passes against the Chargers where he connected on 18 of them for a total of 170 yards and a TD. The Bengals have had to turn to their ground game with the lack of experience at QB and it has paid off as RB Joe Mixon is one of the best young names in the league. Mixon carried the ball 26 times for a total of 111 yards and a TD which gives the 2nd year pro a season stat line of 866 yards and 6 TDs through 11 games. The playmakers have gone through the injury bug this season which doesn’t help the inexperienced Driskel as A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert are on the rack for the rest of the season. Tyler Boyd had the best game out of any pass catcher for the Bengals as the 24-year-old racked up 52 yards on 3 catches. The defensive unit has been awful in 2018 which is a huge reason behind the Bengals dropping the last 5 games. Rookie safety Jessie Bates had a solid outing as the former Wake Forest star racked up 7 tackles which extends his season total to a team-high 94 tackles.

Against The Spread Selection: Oakland Raiders +3
My reason for the pick :
The Oakland Raiders have played some really good football over the last few weeks as they brought the Kansas City Chiefs down to the wire as well as beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. Derek Carr has played really well as he finally looks like he is gaining confidence in the new system. Jared Cook is a nightmare matchup for the Raiders and I don’t think the Bengals have the firepower on defense to match up with the TE. Cincinnati will once again elect to stick with the ground game in this one as they just don’t yet have the trust in Driskel to win a game. This game should come down to the wire which is why I will back the free FG with Oakland.
