Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Washington Redskins vs Jacksonville Jaguars

The Washington Redskins will travel to TIAA Bank field in Jacksonville, Florida, to battle the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoons at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.  Both teams continue to struggle on the season as the Jacksonville Jags are losers of their last four games as they fell to the Tennessee Titans on the road in their last outing by a 30 – 9 score as  the Titans ran all over the Jags defense by posting 238 yards by Derrick Henry along with four touchdowns in the victory.

On the other hand, the Redskins were thumped at home by the New York Giants by a 40 – 16 score as Eli Manning threw for three touchdown passes for New York while Saquon Barkley had yet another solid day on the ground as he rushed for 170 yards along with a touchdown in the second straight win for the Giants. In all, the Redskins are 4-1 against the spread in the last 5 meetings amongst  these division teams.

Washington Redskins's Latest Performance :

Mark Sanchez threw for only 38 yards in the Redskins matchup with the New York Giants last weekend; However, was replaced by Josh Johnson who threw for 195 yards, a touchdown, along with an interception in the contest while rushing for 48 yards along with a score as well. Johnson’s touchdown pass was to Jamison Crowder, who led the receiving corps with 87 yards on two catches for the night as Washington has lost four straight since they lost Alex Smith for the season due to injury. The rushing attack for the Redskins has been non-existent recently as Adrian Peterson only rushed for 16 yards on 10 carries versus the Giants. The offense will certainly be looking to utilize their running game versus a Jacksonville Jaguars rushing unit that was pounded on the ground by the Tennessee Titans in their last matchup.

On the other hand, the defensive unit for Washington has also been less than stellar since the loss of Alex Smith as they have allowed opponents to score an average of 34 points in their last six games as Eli Manning threw for three touchdown passes while Saquon Barkley recorded his   fifth straight 100-yard rushing game as he collected 170 yards on the night along with a touchdown. In all, Washington certainly needs to get a win under their belt in which to gain some momentum, moving forward. Nonetheless, they are tied in the division with the Philadelphia Eagles for the second-place slot while Dallas remains in the top position, at this time. With the season essentially over, the Redskins are simply looking to end 2018 on a strong note, starting with a win over the Jaguars this weekend.

Jacksonville Jaguars's Latest Performance :

Jacksonville’s defense continued to struggle  on the year as they have put up only 15 points total in their last two games, overall.  In their last outing versus the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville only rushed for 60 yards as Leonard Fournette gathered 40 yards for the night. On the other hand, Cody Kessler threw for 240 yards and a touchdown as Jacksonville allowed four sacks for the game while also having a fumble as well.

Defensively, the rush defense for Jacksonville, which has fallen to 21st in the league in defending the run, gave up 238 yards to Derrick Henry while  he also rushed for four touchdowns in the matchup as he scampered for a 99-yard run in the contest in capping a record-setting night. Marcus Mariota end of the game with 162 yards and an interception on the night; However, due to the effectiveness of the rushing attack, he was certainly not needed as much. The Jaguars defense is allowing opponents to score 27 points during a streak to where they were losers of eight of nine games, total. They will certainly be looking to get back on the winning track versus a Washington team that has equally struggled on the offensive and defensive end as well, as their offense is averaging only 17 points per game during a streak to where they went 1 – 5.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be an interesting match-up in that you will have two struggling teams facing off against each other looking to pick up a much-needed and all-important win on Sunday. Josh Johnson seems to be the man in Washington these days and performed very well versus a New York Giants defense last weekend.  On the other hand, the Jaguars continue to struggle due to a lack of consistency, primarily on the offensive end, as their quarterback situation certainly needs to be addressed during the offseason. Nonetheless, this will certainly be an exciting and interesting matchup as each team will be looking to establish themselves on the defensive side of the ball in which to neutralize already inconsistent offenses.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Washington Redskins  +7.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the  Redskins in this matchup  as I do not feel comfortable, at all, in backing Jacksonville at this point in the season due to their inconsistency at the quarterback position. And while the Jaguars may have potential in the backfield with Fournette, the running game has simply not been able to get going in 2018 as they are ranked 20th in the nation.  Johnson played well under center for the Washington Redskins in his last outing in place of Mark Sanchez, and will certainly continue his steak versus a Jacksonville defense ttat is beginning to feel the effects of being on the field entirely too long due to a lack of offensive productivity.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Under 36

My reason for the prediction :

One should not look for many points to be scored in this matchup on Sunday amongst these two squads.  Interesting enough, the inability to score points in this game will not be due to the overall stellar play of the defenses, but, to a lack of cohesion and consistency on the part of both offenses, as this is been their mantra for both all season. With that being said, I look for the total to say well below its set limit as one will witness a game to where both offenses will take a bit of time in which to put some points on the board in a low scoring contest.

Betting trends for Washington Redskins:

  • Under is 7-0 in Redskins last 7 games after allowing more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game.
Under is 5-0 in Redskins last 5 games after allowing more than 30 points in their previous game.
Redskins are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home.

Betting trends for Jacksonville Jaguars:

  • Jaguars are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after scoring less than 15 points in their previous game.
Jaguars are 0-3-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
Jaguars are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games after accumulating less than 90 yards rushing in their previous game.
