New York Jets vs New England Patriots
The New England Patriots will return home to Gillette Stadium for the regular season finale where they will welcome in the New York Jets in an AFC East clash, the opening kickoff is slated for 1:00 PM. The Patriots were once again crowned AFC East Champions despite their down year while the Jets are thinking about the offseason where they have a ton of cap and a high draft pick.
New England won the 1st meeting on 11/25, 27-13.
New York Jets 's Latest Performance :
The New York Jets have once again finished at the bottom of the division but they have a lot more hope heading into this upcoming offseason as they have cap space, a good draft pick, and their franchise QB. The Jets showed the ability to put up a fight in their recent home game against the Green Bay Packers as they went to overtime where they eventually fell, 44-38. Rookie QB Sam Darnold has played well over the last few weeks of the season and this was another example of that as he threw for 341 yards and 3 TDs to an injury-depleted WR corp. Darnold’s stat line doesn’t show his development as he has thrown for 2698 yards, 17 TDs, and 15 interceptions but he has thrown for 594 yards and 5 TDs over the last 2 games. The Jets have taken a major hit to their ground attack as Bilal Powell and Isaiah Crowell have been sidelined with injuries which has forced them to turn to young guys. RB Elijah McGuire was the lone Jet to record a rushing TD in this outing as he ran for 35 yards and a TD on 14 carries which was only the 3rd rushing TD of the season for the 24-year-old. WR Robby Anderson has continued to grow with Darnold and it showed in this game as he hauled in 9 receptions for 140 yards and a TD, Anderson is the leading WR for the Jets with 728 yards and 6 TDs. The Jets may have also found a diamond in the rough with rookie TE Christopher Herndon as he hauled in 6 receptions for 82 yards and a TD. The Jets defense has been their better unit all season but they were unable to stop the Aaron Rodgers led offense. Safety Jamal Adams will be heading the Pro Bowl and reasonably so as he racked up 10 tackles against the Packers while Neville Hewitt, Henry Anderson, Leonard Williams, and Frankie Luvu recorded sacks.
New England Patriots's Latest Performance :
The New England Patriots are having a down year to their standards despite them sitting as the 2nd seed in the AFC as they have lost more than 4 games for the 1st time since 2009. The Patriots were able to record a win last weekend against the Buffalo Bills but it wasn’t pretty as they only won 24-12. QB Tom Brady played yet another bad game as he was only able to throw for 126 yards, 1 TD, and 2 interceptions which has his season stat line at 4105 passing yards, 25 TDs, and 11 interceptions. The Patriots are hoping that Brady picks up his play heading into the postseason as he has only thrown for 405 yards, 2 TDs, and 3 interceptions over the last 2 games. The ground game was able to find success against the Bills as rookie RB Sony Michel has revitalized that portion of the offense. Michel was able to run for 116 yards and a TD on 18 carries which puts the rookie at 881 yards and 6 TDs in only 12 games which are impressive numbers in a pass-first offense. WR Cordarrelle Patterson has also seen carries as an electric playmaker and he showed us why the Patriots trust him to run the ball as he ran for 66 yards on 4 carries. A huge reason why Tom Brady and the Patriots pass offense has not been as superior as years past is because of the slumping Rob Gronkowski who failed to record a catch against the Bills. WR Julian Edelman put together a solid outing with 6 receptions for 70 yards and a TD which gives the 32-year-old a team-best 781 yards and 5 TDs. The Patriots defense has played well over the recent weeks of the season and they were able to hold the Bills offense to 12 points. Safety Patrick Chung has been an important piece for this unit and he continued his good season with a team-high 7 tackles while DB Jason McCourty and J.C. Jackson recorded interceptions.

My reason for the pick :
The New York Jets have been nothing spectacular this season but neither have the New England Patriots which is why I will back the Jets and the points in a divisional matchup. The Patriots have more to play for in this matchup as they are fighting for AFC playoff seeding but the Jets QB Sam Darnold has this offense moving over the last few games and I think he finds similar success in this game. Jamal Adams has enough talent to force Tom Brady into a few mistakes and I think he does just that in this matchup. The Patriots will win this game outright but the Jets should keep this within 2 TDs.
