The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to solidify the #1 spot in the AFC with a win while the Oakland Raiders are looking to continue to evaluate their pieces and move onto the 2019 draft.
Kansas City won the 1st matchup on 12/2, 40-33.
Oakland Raiders's Latest Performance :
The Oakland Raiders have been the laughing stock of the NFL under 1st-year coach Jon Gruden as they have lost a ton of games, traded away their top stars for draft picks, and have also been sued by the city of Oakland for moving to Las Vegas in a few years. The Raiders were able to record a win in their last outing against the Denver Broncos which may be the last game ever played in the Black Hole. QB Derek Carr has benefited the most out of any Raider player this season as he has been turnover-free and while he didn’t have a big statistical game he was big on 3rd down. Carr was able to complete 19 of his 26 pass attempts for a total of 167 yards which puts the 27-year-old at 3864 yards, 19 TDs, and only 8 interceptions. The Raiders were able to find success on the ground game without star RB Marshawn Lynch. Veteran RB Doug Martin had a big game against the Broncos as he was able to run for 107 yards and a TD on 21 carries. Martin has been effective ever since being promoted to the starting RB spot as he has run for 623 yards and 4 TDs. TE Jared Cook has been Derek Carr’s favorite target all season long as he has hauled in 65 catches for a total of 868 yards and 4 TDs but he left the game in the 1st half and never really got back on his feet. WR Jordy Nelson turned into Carr’s favorite target against the Broncos as he hauled in 7 receptions for a total of 75 yards. The defense has been awful all season long but they showed some life at home against a stagnant Broncos offense. The secondary was flying high especially in the 4th quarter as DBs Marcus Gilchrist and Erik Harris were able to record late-game interceptions.
Kansas City Chiefs's Latest Performance :
The Kansas City Chiefs have been unable to clinch the AFC West divisional title down the stretch of the season as they have lost 2 straight games but Andy Reid has been fortunate enough to have his team still in the hunt for the top spot as all they need is a win in this matchup. The latest Kansas City loss was a hard fought loss on the road against the Seattle Seahawks as they fell 38-31. QB Patrick Mahomes has continued to put up MVP numbers and we saw him go into a hostile environment and throw for 273 yards and 3 TDs. Mahomes enters week 17 with a season stat line of 4816 passing yards, 48 TDs, and 11 interceptions which is the top stat line in the NFL. The ground game has suffered over the last few weeks as they have had to turn to the 3rd and 4th string RBs, but they did find some success against the Seahawks. RB Damien Williams was able to impact the game through the air as well as on the ground as he ran for 103 yards on 13 carries while adding 37 receiving yards and a TD. The Chiefs will need to continue keeping defenses honest with the ground game as defenses have started to figure out the aerial attack. Tyreek Hill was able to continue his stellar season as he racked up a team-high 74 yards on 4 receptions which puts the 24-year-old at 1378 reception yards and 11 TDs. The defense has to be better for Kansas City in the playoff if they want any chance of competing for the Super Bowl. Kansas City allowed Russell Wilson and company to throw all over their secondary which has been a common problem all season. LB Anthony Hitchens found success in attacking the Seahawks top-ranked rush offense as he racked up 12 tackles while the pass rush was strong as they combined for 3 sacks.

Against The Spread Selection: Kansas City Chiefs*
My reason for the pick :
I have not yet seen a line on this game but the Kansas City Chiefs should win this game by 14+ points as they will bring out their recent frustration against the lowly Oakland Raiders. Kansas City had to play two tough games in a row while the Oakland Raiders are coming off a huge win which means they are due for regression. Denver is one of the worst scoring offenses in the NFL so it came by no surprise that they were able to stop them but this week they have to face the top-ranked scoring offense and Patrick Mahomes is trying to solidify himself as the MVP. Kansas City is still fighting for the #1 seed and they will bring the heat at home in this one.
