Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Dallas Cowboys vs Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are set to play their 1st playoff game of the 2018 season after receiving a 1st round bye and they will welcome in the Dallas Cowboys at the LA Memorial Coliseum, the opening kickoff is slated for 8:15 PM. The Dallas Cowboys are the 4th seed in the NFC after winning the East division and they won the Wild Card game over the Seattle Seahawks 24-22. The Los Angeles Rams claimed the 2nd seed after winning the NFC West.

Dallas Cowboys's Latest Performance :

The Dallas Cowboys were able to continue their hot streak of wins throughout the Wild Card round of the playoffs as they have now won 8 of their last 9 games and they are still hungry for more as they have a really good defense and an efficient ground game. The Cowboys were able to claim a win in the Wild Card against the Seattle Seahawks 24-22 which also avenged an early season loss to Russell Wilson. QB Dak Prescott was a threat through the air as well as on the ground as he threw for 226 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception while also adding a rushing TD. Prescott has been an important piece behind the Cowboys run and his regular stat line shows as he threw for 3885 yards, 22 TDs, and 8 interceptions while adding 305 rushing yards and 6 TDs. The ground game is where the Cowboys like to wear out their fellow opponents and we saw the NFL rushing leader in Eziekel Elliot have a big game with 137 yards and a TD on 26 carries. Elliot had a great year for the Cowboys as he finished the regular season with 1434 rushing yards and 6 TDs. The Cowboys offense has been much better down the stretch of wins and a big reason for that has been the emergence of WR Amari Cooper. Cooper was able to show his big-play capabilities against the Seahawks as he racked up a team-high 106 yards on 7 receptions, Cooper only played in 9 games with Dallas but he racked up 725 yards and 6 TDs. The Cowboys defense has been one of the top units in the NFL and we saw that on display against the Seahawks as they kept the #1 rushing offense in check. Rookie LB Leighton Vander Esch has continued his dominance and we saw that on display last weekend with a team-high 10 tackles while Maliek Collins contributed the lone sack of the game.

Los Angeles Rams's Latest Performance :

The Los Angeles Rams were fortunate enough to claim 1 of the top 2 spots in the NFC which allowed them to sit out the Wild Card round and start prepping for a Super Bowl run. The last Los Angeles game goes back to week 17 of the season where they beat the San Francisco 49ers 48-32. QB Jared Goff will be a major contributor in the postseason run and we saw him play well this season as he has developed under Sean McVay. The 24-year-old had a really efficient game against the 49ers as he threw for 199 yards and 4 TDs which pushed his regular season stat line to 4688 yards, 32 TDs, and 12 interceptions. The Rams kept out their star RB in Todd Gurley as he has been dealing with injuries but veteran C.J. Anderson has done a nice job and has solidified himself as a solid backup. Gurley is one of the best all-purpose RBs in the NFL as he was able to end the regular season with 1831 all-scrimmage yards and 21 TDs. Anderson played in the final 2 games of the season where he ran for 299 yards and 2 TDs. The Rams WRs were destroyed by injuries this season but McVay has found a way to make it work with young playmakers. WR Brandin Cooks has been the top target for Goff all season long and it showed against the 49ers as he racked up 62 yards and 2 TDs on 5 receptions, Cook ended the regular season with 1204 yards and 5 TDs. The Rams defense has a ton of talent but they have failed to play a complete game this season as they have given up a ton of points. While although they allowed the 49ers to score 32 points they were able to force turnovers as LB Corey Littleton racked up 2 interceptions and Blake Countess contributed 1 himself.

Against The Spread Selection: Dallas Cowboys +7

My reason for the pick :

This is one of those lines that Vegas wants people to buy into so the line lowers and people slam the Rams but I have already jumped on this TD spread defending the Cowboys as I think they have the talent to win this game outright. The Cowboys defense has given fits to the best of offenses as we saw them shut down the New Orleans Saints towards the end of the season and given the fact that this is the playoffs they should play inspired. The Rams on paper look good as they have a 12-4 record with a really good offense but I wasn’t sold on this team towards the end of the season as they struggled especially the young QB Jared Goff. Dallas should have success on the ground with Eziekel Elliot which will sway the time of possession in their favor which means it will be a close game.

Betting trends for Dallas Cowboys:

  • Dallas is 6-3 ATS as an underdog this season.

Betting trends for Los Angeles Rams:

  • Los Angeles is 5-7 ATS against the NFC this season.
