Los Angeles Rams vs New Orleans Saints
The New Orleans Saints are set to play in the NFC Championship game at Mercedes-Benz Superdome where they will welcome in the Los Angeles Rams, the opening kickoff is slated for 3:05 PM. The New Orleans Saints last appeared in the Super Bowl in 2009 which they won it all while Los Angeles is seeking its 1st Super Bowl appearance since the 2001 season.
Los Angeles Rams's Latest Performance :
The Los Angeles Rams were able to show their versatility in the divisional round as they used a dangerous running attack and good defense to beat the Dallas Cowboys 30-22. QB Jared Goff has been penciled in as one of the top young QBs in the NFL and reasonably so as he is having a good year. Goff ended the regular season with 4688 yards, 32 TDs, and 12 interceptions, but his impact was limited in the Dallas game as he only threw for 186 yards. The ground game was always a threat to go off with Todd Gurley in the backfield but Sean McVay and company made a late-season move which may have changed the approach of this team. RB C.J. Anderson has bounced around from team to team but he showed his worth against Dallas as he rushed for 123 yards and 2 TDs while MVP candidate Todd Gurley ran for 115 yards and a TD. Gurley is the featured back in the Rams offense as he has combined for 1831 scrimmage yards and 21 TDs but we saw Anderson have a good close to the season as he ran for 299 yards and 2 TDs in 2 games. Goff lost a big time WR in Cooper Kupp during the regular season but WR Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks have stepped up as of recent. Woods has been Goff’s favorite target all season long as he ended the regular season with 86 catches for 1219 yards and 6 TDs, Woods was able to have the best game out of any WR in the Dallas game as he hauled in 6 catches for 69 yards. The defense was able to stop a solid Dallas offense as they kept them out of the endzone for most of the game. LB Cory Littleton ended the season with a team-high 125 tackles and he was once again a force for the Rams with 7 tackles while 1st-year Ram Dante Fowler Jr. contributed the lone sack of the game.
New Orleans Saints's Latest Performance :
The New Orleans Saints found themselves in a quick 14-0 hole against the Philadelphia Eagles in the divisional round but the defense was able to step up and let one of the top offenses in the league get going which resulted in a 20-14 win. QB Drew Brees is arguably the most important player in franchise history and he is putting together an MVP type of season for the Saints. Brees threw an interception 1st play of the game but he responded by throwing for 301 yards and 2 TDs. A turnover is a rarity for the 40-year-old as Brees ended the regular season throwing for 3992 yards, 32 TDs, and 5 interceptions. The Saints have a two-headed monster in the backfield with Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram, and while they didn’t have as much as an impact against the Eagles they should be ready to respond in this one. Kamara had the biggest game of the two as he racked up 71 yards on 16 carries but Ingram was still productive as he rushed for 53 yards on 9 carries. Kamara is one of the biggest threats in the NFL as he can run the ball as well as catch it and we saw that all season long as he ended the regular season with 1592 scrimmage yards and 18 TDs. Brees favorite target this season has been the 25-year-old out of Ohio State in Michael Thomas as he racked up 125 catches for 1405 yards and 9 TDs this season. Brees was able to connect with Thomas 12 times against the Eagles for a total of 171 yards and 2 TDs. The defense has been vastly improved from years past and we saw them step up last week when needed. LB Demario Davis has been the leader of the defense and he has played like one too as he racked up a team-high 8 tackles while CB Marshon Lattimore contributed 2 interceptions.

Against The Spread Selection: New Orleans Saints -3
My reason for the pick :
These two teams met during the regular season where the New Orleans Saints were able to beat the Rams and with a Super Bowl trip on the line in this one, I believe they do that again. These may very well come down to QB play and while Goff is a good QB he is still very young and may make a mistake down the stretch of the game which will allow the veteran QB in Drew Brees and his potent offense to pull away. The Saints defense has played very well down the stretch of the season and if Cam Jordan can get to the QB it’s game over. The one major edge that the Saints defense holds on the Rams offense is the fact that they ended the regular season as the 2nd ranked rush defense. This will be a back and forth game but the Saints will pull away in the 4th quarter and win by a TD.
