Cincinnati Reds vs Kansas City Royals
The Kansas City Royals play host to the Cincinnati Reds at Kaufman Stadium on Tuesday night. Both teams are amongst the MLB’s worst and struggling mightily to add to the win column. On the mound for Kansas City will be right-hander, Ian Kennedy (5.76 ERA) against another righty, Sal Romano (6.23 ERA).
The Royals are currently on a five-game losing streak and desperately need a win while the Reds snapped a four-game losing streak beating the Rockies 7-5 on Thursday. The last time these two teams met was in 2015 where the Royals swept the Reds 4-0.
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
The Cincinnati Reds are coming off of a thirteen inning win over the Rockies at Great American Ball Park where they are a dismal 10-21. Their road record isn’t much better at 12-20. Cincinnati’s pitching and hitting haven’t been bright spots with the exception of Scooter Gennett who is batting .314 with twelve homers.
Also in a rebuilding year, the Reds have struggled to garner consecutive wins on many occasions this season. Pitcher Tyler Mahle (4.33 ERA) leads the pitching staff with 4 wins and 67 strikeouts which pales in comparison to the top pitchers in the league. The Reds need support in all positions and hopefully, their balanced efforts in the draft will get them there quickly.
Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :
The Kansas City Royals are 10-21 at home this season and haven’t proven that they can win at home or away with no sign of turning around an already disappointing season. Pitching has been a real problem and they tried to remedy that situation last week by drafting 9 college pitchers making their future intentions very clear. They want to compete by 2021 and with any luck, they’ll have a roster of starters that can do just that.
Everyone is well aware that this is a rebuilding year and coaches are making no bones about it. Mike Moustakas leads the team with 12 home runs and Jon Jay is the only Royal batting over .300. There aren’t many bright spots on this team and things don’t look to be getting any better.
