Cincinnati Reds vs Kansas City Royals
The Cincinnati Reds will face off against the Kansas City Royals at Kaufman Stadium for the first time this season on Wednesday night in game two of a two-game NL vs. AL series. Neither of the last place teams has made much of an impression on the league in what is widely known to be rebuilding years for them. Both teams made the most of their draft choices in an effort to strengthen their bullpens and increase their offensive output.
On the mound, Tyler Mahle (4-6, 4.33 ERA) vs Jason Hammel (2-6, 5.12 ERA). Both right-handed pitchers are in desperate need of a win. The often erratic Mahle has won his last three starts for the Reds giving him an edge over the struggling Hammel who has managed to strike out 27 batters in his last five games.
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
The Reds are surprisingly coming off a 6-3 win against the third-place Cardinals on Sunday. Center fielder Billy Hamilton came up big for the Reds on the defensive side of the ball and almost single-handedly secured the win. The win ended a 13-game losing streak to the Cards who have owned them in recent years.
The Reds do have a bright spot in outfielder Jesse Winker who is batting .417 in his last 7 games with a .500 on-base percentage during that period. If only his teammates could follow suit, they could make a run at the fourth place Pirates.
Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :
The Royals were in it to win it at the Coliseum in Oakland on Sunday, but Matt Chapman quickly erased that thought with a solo homer off Jason Adam in the bottom of the eighth. A familiar outcome in the Royals dreary season. They’ve dropped three of their last four and eight out of their last 10 games.
The Royals rebuilding efforts seem to be in full swing. They have signed 24 of their draft picks including the No. 34 pick 6 foot 6 left-hander Daniel Lynch. All have reported to the spring training facility in Surprise, AZ.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The teams’ match-up well. Two last place teams fighting for a win is always a compelling game. The edge goes to the Reds with Mahle on the mound. He’s on a roll and could deter the Royals from taking advantage of home field. Eugenio Suarez and Jose Martinez blasted big homers for the Reds this past weekend and could easily do the same off of Hammel.
