Detroit Tigers vs Chicago White Sox
The AL Central’s third-place Detroit Tigers visit the fourth place Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field on Friday night. The Tigers have dropped two in a row and sit five games back while the White Sox won their last game and sit twelve behind the first place Indians in the AL Central.
Visiting right-handed Detroit pitcher Mike Fiers (5-3, 4.01 ERA) takes on Chicago’s righty Reynaldo Lopez (2-4, 3,26 ERA). This should be a solid match-up on the mound. After getting thumped by the Twins on Tuesday, the Tigers also lost 35-year-old Miguel Cabrera to a season-ending injury. Maybe they can turn it around against the Sox.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Detroit Tigers are in the same boat. Inconsistent play has plagued them this season. They stole one from the Indians in their recent series, but then were blown out 9-2 in the final game of the series on June 10th followed by a 6-4 loss at the hands of the Minnesota Twins on June 12th.
With the return of Jose Iglesias from the batting land of the dead and injured Jordan Zimmerman returning to action on the mound, maybe things are looking up.
Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :
White Sox pitcher James Shields (2-7) secured only his second victory of the season since his home opener win against the Royals on Tuesday night against the first-place Cleveland Indians. A sign of good things to come? Debatable. The often streaky White Sox are having a difficult time stringing wins together. Yoan Moncada and Yomer Sanchez did manage to hit back-to-back homers off of Cleveland Starter Adam Plutko to start the game, giving them some hope in the batter’s box.
Overall, the Sox need to play more consistently. String a series of wins together would be a good start and would pose a threat to the rest of the division.

The home field advantage should come into play in this divisional match-up. Chicago has proven they can win at home, but Detroit seems to bounce back after wins. They haven’t racked up a multitude of road wins to make anyone nervous, so Guaranteed Rate Field could prove to be the differentiator at the end of the day.
