Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Los Angeles Chargers vs Los Angeles Rams

Two of Los Angeles’ finest on the gridiron will get together on Sunday afternoon at 4:25 pm EST as the Chargers will take on the Rams at LA Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California, for a week three NFL showdown.  The Chargers would get a road win over the Buffalo Bills in week 2 by a 31-20 score as they would cover the 7.5 spread as road favorites while the over would be the play with the total being set at 41.5 points for the game.  The Rams would go to 2-0 on the season as they would pick up the 34-0 blowout win versus the Arizona Cardinals as they would also cash in on the spread as 13.5 home favorites while the total of 43 points was not surpassed.  The over has been the play in four of the last five matchups versus these teams while the Chargers would pick up the 27-24 home win on November 23, 2014 yet the Rams would cover the four-point spread as road dogs while the over was the play with the total being set at 43.5 points for the game.

Los Angeles Chargers's Latest Performance :

Phillip Rivers would throw for three touchdowns in the first half along with having 256 yards for the game as the Chargers would cruise to victory as well versus the Buffalo Bills in week two.  Rivers would be joined by Austin Ekeler would have 77 yards rushing along with Melvin Gordon would have seven rushes for 28 total yards on the ground.  Keenan Allen (6 rec, 67 yds), Virgil Green (3 rec, 55 yds), and Tyrell Williams (3 rec, 48 yds) would lead the receiving corps while Melvin Gordon would have two passing TD’s along with a rush TD in the win.  The strength of the Chargers offense lies in their passing game which is averaging 329 yards per outing, yet, their rushing attack is potent as well as it is putting up 113 yards on the ground per outing.  They will find difficulty moving the ball versus the Rams as they are ranked in the top 10 in each defensive category thus far in the year, including being 5th and 6th in rushing and passing defense, respectfully.  Look for Rivers and crew to move the ball, however, they certainly will not have the dominating outing offensively that they had versus the Bills in their last outing.

Los Angeles Rams's Latest Performance :

The Rams would have no problems disposing of the Arizona Cardinals on last Sunday as they would go in at the half 19-0 while outscoring the visitors 15-0 in the second half on their way to a blowout victory.  Jared Goff would end with 354 yards along with a TD and an interception while Malcolm Brown (46 yards, 12 rushes) and Todd Gurley (42 yards, 19 rushes) would lead the rushing attack that is averaging 114 yards per game, good for 14th in the league.  The receiving corps was led by Brandon Cooks (7 rec, 159 yds) along with Cooper Cupp (6 rec, 63 yds) in a passing attack that puts up a total of 284 yards per outing.  The Rams seek put in some work versus a Chargers defensive unit that allows 29 points per game while giving up 233 yards in the air.  On the other hand, the defense is also allowing 95 yards rushing per game to their opponents.  Again, for the Rams, who are putting up 34 points per game, it will be interesting to witness how they will attack the Chargers who, despite their susceptibility to giving up points, are only 8th in the NFL in allowing 328 yards per game to opponents.

How Los Angeles Chargers & Los Angeles Rams Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

LAC are 1-1 ATS while the O/U is 2-0

LAR are 2-0 ATS while the O/U is 0-2

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The Chargers will need to control the trenches in this outing if they will have a chance to come out with a victory versus the Rams.  If they can gain success in this area, it will open their offense so that Rivers can pass even more effectively.  On the other hand, the Rams continue to gain momentum with each win and while the Chargers will certainly be a test for them, they look to utilize their punishing running game with Gurley and company to set the pace of the game, altogether.  Look for this to be a competitive matchup on Sunday as each team will be looking to gain LA bragging rights for the year.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick:  Los Angeles Rams -6.5

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Rams in this contest as they have proven that they are a very dangerous team in every facet of the game.  Cooks and company possess speed on the outside while Goff is delivering the ball perfectly thus far.  Of course, with the running game being the staple, Gurley will certainly be effective versus a defensive unit that has given up some points to their opponents on the ground this year.  In all, look for the Rams to impress, once again, in which to get the win and cover the spread in this game.

Totals Selection: Pick:  Over 48.5

My reason for the prediction :

I will back the over in this matchup because the Rams and the Chargers will indeed put some points on the board.  Phillip Rivers remains as always as he will keep the Chargers in the game with his plethora of game heroics within the passing game.  With that being said, this game will be close for a half (or so).  After this time, the Rams will begin to take control of the game with their rushing attack, though this will be well after the total has been surpassed amongst two dangerous offenses.
