Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Boston Celtics vs Atlanta Hawks

The reeling Boston Celtics will travel to State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, to take on the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. The Celtics have lost three straight games with their last coming at the hands of the New York Knicks at home as they lost by a score of 117 – 109. In this outing, The Celtics only put up 18 points in the first quarter en route to a loss where they allowed the struggling Knicks to Shoot 49% from the field along with 50% from 3 point range. Kyrie Irving scored 22 points on the night for the Celtics yet went 9-25 from the field in the loss.

On the other hand, the Atlanta Hawks are also struggling and have lost their ninth straight game due to being owned by the Toronto Raptors at home by a 124 – 108 score in their last outing.   The Hawks were not only outshot from the field by the Raptors by a 53 – 45% margin, but, were outrebounded 55 – 34 for the game. Nonetheless, the Hawks were led by Jeremy Lin, who went 11-13 for the night, with 26 points as he hit four of five 3-pointers for the night. In all, the over has been the plate in five of the last six games amongst these teams.

Boston Celtics's Latest Performance :

Boston Celtics have also look lifeless in their last three games as they have not being able to pull themselves out of an offensive slump to which they are currently engaged. They only shot 39% from the field versus the Celtics while shooting 30% from 3 point range for the game as Irving led the team with 22 points along with 13 assists  while Marcus Morris put in 21 points as he went 3-6 from 3-point range for the night. Gordon Hayward also looked much better in putting up 19 points in the game while pulling down seven boards for the Celtics.

The problem for the Celtics has also been their defense during their current losing skid. They allowed the Knicks, a struggling team prior to this matchup,  to shoot lights out all night long as they nailed 15 threes on the night while shooting 49% from the field, as stated. Tim Hardaway jr. went 4-7 from 3-point range while finishing with 21 points for the Knicks while Trey Burke led the team with 29 points for the night. In all, the Celtics certainly need to shore up vulnerabilities on both sides of the court in this matchup versus the Atlanta Hawks; However, they will need to play much better defense in which two preserve leads late in the game, something that they have not done effectively lately.

Atlanta Hawks 's Latest Performance :

One can only surmise the Atlanta Hawks season is being one of severe disappointment. They have only won three games on the season and currently occupying the seller of the Southeastern standings of the Eastern Conference. Their young star Trae Young  leads the team in scoring 16 points per game, however, only had six points versus Toronto in the last outing for Atlanta in going 2-7 from the field for the night. The Hawks essentially had to depend on two veterans in which to keep the team in the game as Lin scored 26 points while Vince Carter put in 14 points along with five rebounds for the home team.

On the other hand, the defense for the Hawks allowed three 20-point scorers for Toronto in Kyle Lowry with 21 points on the night while Pascal Siakam  finished with 22 points in the victory. Jonas Valanciunas also finished the game with 24 points along with 13 rebounds as the Raptors were able to continue their road success versus a Hawks team that simply looks lifeless on the season.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This will be a very important matchup for the Boston Celtics as they will certainly be looking to get a much-needed win over the lowly Atlanta Hawks. As stated, they have struggled on both sides of the ball lately and with Atlanta  reeling on both sides of the ball at this time, this matchup will certainly be a game t0 where the Celtics will likely shine. With that being the case, also expect the Hawks to be focused on picking up a much-needed win in this contest as well as they have dropped multiple games in a row and will certainly like to get back on track as soon as possible.

Against The Spread Selection: Pick: Boston Celtics

My reason for the pick :

I will back the Celtics in this match up as I happen to feel that they will come out of their current funk versus an Atlanta team that simply cannot remain consistent on either side of the ball at this time. Atlanta is struggling to find not only a consistent scorer in their lineup, but, are also looking for a defensive spark that can somehow allow them to better stop teams from scoring throughout the game, particularly, at critical moments. With that being the case, expect Boston to take advantage of these vulnerabilities early and often in which to pull out a huge victory, thus ending their losing streak.

Totals Selection: Pick: Over

My reason for the prediction :

As stated, the Boston Celtics will indeed have a great night on offense as they will certainly exploit an Atlanta defense that is allowing teams to put up close to 120 points per outing.   In other words, the over will indeed be the strong play in this matchup as I see Irving and Gordon along with the rest of the role players from Boston each shining in their own individual way in this matchup.
